Hi all. Whilst this may be my fault I thought I’d post to prevent others making the same mistake.

So, I enrolled in the program and downloaded the feedback assistant and the other required packages. I had a message in the app store to download and restart to install the beta. So I therefore partitioned and connected a separate drive specifically for this.

Clicked 'download and restart' and the update downloaded. I waited for the screen to appear that allows you to choose an install destination, it didn't appear!!!
DB2 wrote straight over my working install. It’s a two week old clone so it’s not the end of the world.

    Please be aware all.

You installed the beta profile on your main OS, you should have first installed the OS on the other partition and then install the beta profile on it.

Yep, aware of this now. Just posting so others are aware that the way things work has changed. Once the gold release of 10.12.3 comes out I’ll install a fresh complete copy and use migration assistant to move all my gear over.

nothing's changed; the betas install over the current OS, as Ritsuka pointed out. user error, and no warning needed...

I promise you. MacOS Betas used to give you the option to install on a disk of your choice. Ergo something has changed.
    Good day.

the original beta for, for example, el cap or sierra. but the incremental betas always need to install over the currently-installed OS.

I’m pretty sure I’ve installed a beta before on a drive of my choice without going from the first release. Either way it’s done. Anybody who reads this is more enlightened than they were previously regardless of what you think and/or feel.

ok, but maybe... change the thread title. it's not a warning for everyone, but a thread about your personal experience. anyway, glad you've figured things out.
