Warning: link bracelet and MacBook very bad combination

36 years of improper typing technique doesn't make it proper. I was taught how to type properly way back in grade school. Fortunately for those of you who didn't have this opportunity, the link bracelet is brushed so it shouldn't be an eyesore like a polished bracelet should you induce some scratches on it.

If it works and does not hurt my wrist, it IS proper. I am a touch typist typing with all ten fingers. I started typing when I was 13 on a mechanical type writer, not a keyboard.

I have no typing issue.

Also, the fact that the bracelet is brushed is where the problem is. Because if the bracelet is shiny, I can show you where you can get a stainless steel polishing kit on eBay for $10 that would take the scratches right off. But alas it is brushed, so the finish cannot be readily repaired.

Acutally I this becomes a major concern for me, and there aren't even any straps that is free from this problem except for the leather loop. All the other straps have some kind of metal on it.

Anyone else have any clear solution?

Wrong. Any typing instructors (if there's such a thing nowadays; we actually had typing classes back in grade school) would tell you not to touch your palms on the surface below the typewriter/keyboard. "It works and doesn't hurt" doesn't make it proper.

That is why I am leaning toward the Milanese Loop. Yes it will scratch. But because the loop is made of many small pieces the scratches hopefully won't be as noticeable.

So what is the point of using a "proper" technique? Except somebody says it is "proper"? What is the purpose? And why is palm rest recommended by medical doctors to avoid the onset of carpel tunnel symptom, I ask you? Could it be that after many years the medical field has determined that the "proper" way of typing, with the wrists elevated, is actually very medically improper and bad for your hands?

I type 55 words a minute, I don't need to look at my keyboard, I use all ten fingers, my hands don't hurt. I can type on a regular type writer as well as a keyboard.

I have no issue.

Who cares about scratching the link bracelet? I'd be more concerned about scratching my $2000 MBP.

In fact, this is the exact reason why I don't wear my watch when using my MBP. Both will get scratched no matter how careful you try to be.

Also, the link bracelet will scratch and 'gunk' will build up between the links from daily use. Lucky, if you bring it to a jeweler, they can buff things out :)

False. It's a non-issue for those of us who practice proper typing techniques.

So you are saying you never rest your wrist on the Macbook even when not typing?

It's not only about typing, the watch will come in contact with the MBP at some point if it's on your wrist.

How do you type without resting your wrist on the macbook? I don't understand how you can avoid this. Do you have a picture?

Correct

wtf there's no way that's correct. hahaha how do you suspend your hands in mid air for more than 60 seconds without feeling pain?

That's what any typing instructors will tell you to do and, no, that method doesn't cause pain even for a prolonged period of time. It's okay to touch your forearms on the edge of the table but don't allow your palms to touch the area below the keyboard. That's how you keep your wrists straight (and by default, avoid allowing your watch to make any kind of scratch-inducing contact).

Will Milanese Loop do this too?

The Milanese loop and my MacBook Pro will have a lot of fun together. There are some strong magnets in those MacBooks near the edge of the palm rests. I can't wait to see whether the watchband's magnet will get stuck there... :D
