My MBP will get up to 94C CPU temp when running handbrake, but is stable.

Yes, that's hot. Yes, i'd prefer it to run cooler, however it is the fastest portable machine i've ever used, so I'll live with it.

I'm tempted to pull it apart and re-apply the thermal paste at some stage, i've heard rumours that this will drop the temps down by 10c or so (apple screwed it up in the factory on recent MBPs), but for now i can't be bothered.

This isn't correct, IB will consume the same amount of power as SB (45 Watt) and in some cases, they will run ALOT hotter.

Thanks for the update.

I'm really thinking of rather getting the entry level MacPro instead of the MacBook Pro. I love cool and silent computing.

My Photoshop files now always go north of 500 Mb to up to 2 Gb, and I'm doing more and more video, so a workstation might just be my best bet.

Is there anything you can do settings wise with built in options or a fan controller app to help with heat and noise? I just got an i7 and haven't set it up yet so don't know how it will be heat and noise wise. My C2D 2009 MBP never got hot really nor noisy. But I don't play games either...most video intensive thing is watching streaming or saved films.
