Step 3: Sign out of iCloud completely. Head to Settings > iCloud and find Sign Out at the bottom of the page. For iOS 10.3 and later, Settings > Your name > Sign Out. For iOS 7 devices, choose Delete Account.

Note: if you delete all your data manually without signing out of iCloud, it will also delete the content from iCloud as well -- which is something you definitely don't want.

Back to me now, so how do I do this and make sure the cloud is unaffected? I have a new phone, a X...it is all set up and so on, but the NOTE instructions above made me real nervous and I stopped completely.

I need very slow, step by step instructions because I dont know what not to do or what order to do it in.

Just go to settings and go to where it says your name like pictures show. Then go down and sign out

Yes, I know that much. So I sign out and then what

a. is it then SAFE To delete any info I want?

b. if so, what would I delete as the next thing it tells me to do is

Step 4: Start the wipe process. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Confirm the selection.

So I have SIGNED out of Icloud, now BEFORE I erase all content and settings, am I supposed to MANUALLY delete info somewhere that the note implies I would want to? Thanks, bTW

Nah then you can just do erase all and settings

As long as you back up your device you’ll be fine

LOL, as long as I back up my device...OK, I have another phone, that I initiated when this one was turned off from Verizon that has all my info on it, far more info than this 6S plus that I want to sell - So I need to back it up, is that gonna mess up my cloud at all since this is the old phone that has not been on or active for 6 months?

So the phone I am selling is a 6S plus that has been in the drawer for 6 months. My Iphone X is on and running and connected and everything is fine and my cloud has all my info also etc. I know this sounds dumb but I will ask it, is BACKING up the one I am selling necessary at all in this case and if so does backing up a phone that is NOT current as to all my data going to mess up my cloud and other phone?

You would just end up with 2 backups. One for your X and another for the 6S. If what you have on your X is on the 6s I wouldn’t bother I guess

OK,thanks again.

Here is what I did...I went into Costco 6 months ago with this phone I am now selling, as my active phone, the 6S Plus. I bought a new X and turned it on and made that my new phone with the same phone #, signed into the could, etc., and ALL my info came over from the 6S Plus to the new X. At that time I backed up the 6S plus before I moved it to the new X.

From that point forward unless I use the 6S for any reason, there would be NO reason to back it up, right? AND Even if there would be NO Reason to back it up, doing so cant harm anything as to data on new phone or at the cloud, right? thanks.

You’re fine. You would just create a new backup of your phone.

What I normally do when moving to a new phone is as follows.

  1. Make sure I have a current iCloud backup of my old device
  2. Sign out of my iCloud account on the old device
  3. Erase all Content and Settings from my old device
  4. Power up the new device and restore from an iCloud backup
The "Erase all Content and Settings" will only remove information from the physical phone. It will not effect your music/photos/other data stored in the cloud. Once you erase all content and settings your phone will look and act like it was just taken out of the box.

Thanks, just read somewhere to do something to "accounts & passwords"...not sure what. Also to sign out of iMessage and Facetime and appstore first. Thanks.

OH great, now another question. When i try and sign out of the phone it asks me if I want to keep copies of Notes, Contacts, Reminders and News...They are all UNchecked, leave it that way and sign out right, that will NOT affect that info on the other phone and cloud, right?

That is a good question... I just swapped into a X last week and I don't recall getting that prompt.

Also, the Erase all Content and Settings option will take care of all your saved "Accounts & Passwords". You shouldn't have to remove/delete this info separately as it will remove it from your iCloud account (your other devices).

Normally I disable "Find my iPhone" and then just Erase All Content and Settings.

I believe it ask if you want to save stuff on that device since you are logging out of your cloud.
