I'm in the process of pre-ordering the 4S (my line is up because I swapped with a family member last year, currently theirs is up on 11/25). Now my question is where people who bought the 4 on launch/launch able to get their date pushed up? I don't wanna buy this and have to pay 650 for the 5 (or whatever it will be called) next year. I wouldn't mind paying the Early Upgrade fee either ($450) but I'm just curious to see how the process works (like if anyone was able to get their date pushed up for the 4S). Thanks

Edit;
Also, The only thing that's holding me back from pre-ordering is the update. Seeing how the wait time was longer than usual this time around (for the next iPhone) a lot of people who bought the 4 contracts where up/ just about to be up. If the 5 is released this time next year then all the people who bought the 4s would still have about 6 months left on their contract. Would the early upgrade fee( 450) even be an option when there is till a half of year left on the contract. That's what worries me

I pre-ordered the iPhone 4 last year, received it the day before it launched, and was eligible to upgrade to the 4S. No haggling, no calling AT&T or anything.

Don't really know why, tbh.

Dang. I did the same thing (pre-ordered iP4) and am not eligible for an upgrade until Nov 2011.

As long as it's the same time frame. I wouldn't mind that much tbh. I would either pay the early fee or be patient and wait 1 more month.

Bought on launch day last year, eligible for upgrade this year in July. Actually, it may have been earlier, but I didn't check earlier.

In my iPhone career, I've always been eligible for upgrade after a year or so.

My upgrade was scheduled for the end of November. Just got off the phone with AT&T & they moved it up to next Friday. Only mine, though--not my wife's line. Now I have a week to find out how I'm going to get hers without paying the upgrade fee.
(...and whats up with not being able to pre order and pick up in store?!?!?! That's new, isn't it?)

Seriously there are so many threads on this its ridiculous.

There are several factors, the main one being your monthly bill. If you have one line and its over $100 a month you should get a fully subsidized upgrade every 12 months.
