This report seems to suggest they sold 14.5million units in 2020? Hardly bad

From what I gathered, the sales were below Apple's expectations and only appears to have gone as far as saturating that niche. Still, considering 10% of 12 sales, this is still real $ even for Apple. This makes me think a 13 mini will also be real.

I know someone that can't even get $950AUD still sealed not opened for one. Was a birthday gift and Paid $1150 on sale from Apples $1199 price.
As above too small for most people when you can spend $150 more for a 12 with a 6.1" screen.

Tell him I’ll give him $700 for it. Could use a second iPhone as a beta testing phone. 😁

If it’s blue, I’ll throw in another $20 😊

This is one of those points of data that is questionable.

You have Tim Cook stating during the last earnings call that the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max greatly outperformed their expectations. This is supported by other analytics companies. But the 12 Pro doesn't even register on this top 10 list?

And? I couldn't even get $800 for my $1,150 iPad Pro 12.9 WiFi+Cellular 128GB that's barely two months old and in excellent condition. Had to take $750 for it today just to get rid of it.

The whole "you can spend $150 more for a 6.1 inch display" is silly and those people dont get it. People who want a smaller display wouldn't care even if you could get a 6.1 inch display for the same price, we dont want a 6.1 inch display...

Told you would have to take near $700.

Sure but there is not many.

I remember seeing the figure that the iPhone 12 Mini was 6% of sales. If Apple sold about 81M phones then that translates to about 4.86M iPhone 12 Minis sold.

If that list is credible:

I’d be less worried about the mini (10th place)

And more worried about the regular pro making it through to this September (it’s not on the list at all).

Spoiler: I think all four phones from September 20 will appear again in 21.

I think I’ve found the link to the chart and it’s news article. Omdia definitely appear credible. 14.8 million iphone 12 mini sales worldwide, and the tenth most sold phone worldwide even with a 1 month delay. I’d say these are very encouraging figures and the 12 Mini has been a relative success.

I think the mini sold less in comparison to the other iPhones in the 12 line up but overall did well in terms of numbers. 14.8 million is not shabby at all.

I am honestly not surprised at all, 12 Pro is the least convincing iPhone from an average consumer perspective. Too close to iPhone 12 while price is not.

Enthusiast appreciate 12 pro don't get me wrong but average consumer don't care that much about OLED, Raw, extra RAM/nits...
They will just see the look and and 2 extra sensors, not worth for most.

Even after the keynote I was surprised by the combo regular 12 get OLED, same screen + 12 Pro sold at €1150 with no 120 hz... Like a Dave2D said, the 12 was a surprisingly balanced phone and 12 Pro could be a though sell at those 4 digits price with no 120 hz.

Next year pro will have 120 hz and then the price difference will be more understandable.
2020 was the non-pro models big improvement for iPhone with OLED and excellent finition (no more relative big bezels like XR/11)
2021 will be overall boring for non-pro but pro iPhones will get their revange with 120 hz LTPO.
