iPod Was my iPod replaced with a new one?

Hi everyone-
I'm kind of confused as to what happened to my iPod after a recent AppleCare servicing. I have a 40gb clickwheel iPod that was giving me the exclamation-marked folder. So, I sent it to Apple, and the iPod I got back still has my custom ingraving, but the casing front and back looks very new. I'm wondering if they gave me a refurbished replacement or possibly a new iPod?

I'm impressed, then, at the FAST turnaround on this. Maybe they have an engraver setup in CA for this type of problem so they're not ordering new ones from China?
