Love at first sight, or did it grow on you?

I started with the AW3 when I had a little spending money available, I figured I have been a dedicated iPhone user since 2G so I might as well try it. I loved getting notifications on my wrist and I really enjoyed the watch but I got so tired of needing to charge it all the time. I eventually went a long time without wearing it. With AW6 I decided to try again and I loved it, and then ended up upgrading to the 8 for a short time before deciding to throw caution to the wind and sell it for an Ultra. I am very much in love with my Ultra. I throw it on the fast charger every 2 days while I'm winding down and it's charged by the time I am ready for bed. I am not a power user, I am actually fat and lazy so the only workout action my watch sees is when I go swimming, and I love it for that. I answer calls on it while I'm driving or doing things with my hands and I use it to respond to texts when I don't have my phone on me or don't feel like taking it out of my pocket.

I did enjoy my 3 when I first got it so I'd say it was instant love for me. I just didn't become hooked on it until I got my 6, and at this point my watch is almost as important to me as my phone--I can't imagine not having it.

As someone said above, it's a passive device for me - almost in the background. I didn't know it'd be useful to me until they'd got to S6, but now invaluable:

  • collects activity / steps, health & sleep data passively (though I pro-actively record walks / workouts) to build-out a wider picture alongside things like my Withings Scale
  • closing my rings regularly (but not obsessively / streaks) has unexpectedly become compelling & really helped me with 'activeness'
  • all notifications turned off except Messages and WhatsApp so I never miss one, but usually read on iPhone as preference
  • AOD and raise-to-work disabled to save battery
  • next to no apps added
  • I'll start a playlist on iPhone via Airplay to wireless speaker/s, then like skipping tracks via the Watch
  • Siri off side-button to set alarms for my next call, countdown timers for cooking, add random things I want to come back to into Reminders
  • Intercom in Home has become very useful as we've added more HomePods - saves shouting to each other across four floors at least twice each day

I hate getting notifications and constantly be reminded of everything everywhere. Maybe I’m weird but I completely disabled all “smartwatch” features and use the watch strictly for its Health and Fitness tracking capabilities, as well as a portable music player when going out on a run.

I have heart issues and I find if I'm feeling weird being able to check my pulse quickly and accurately and my O2 sats as well as ECG reassures me that I'm OK it's just an AFib episode. I do wish it would measure blood pressure as well though. That is why I bought it, but after a bit of time I find I am enjoying dressing it up with inexpensive bands, bling, and cases. So It definitely has grown on me.

I don't think that's weird at all! Even though I have notifications on, I ignore them most of the time. This is true even on my phone. I'm not one of those who is inclined to pick up my phone and start scrolling during a lull time in the midst of a social activity.

I was recently at the house of two friends (elderly retired couple) for luncheon. We stayed for like a 4 hour lunch :). Towards the end of lunch, as we got up from the table to get desert, the male friend picked up his phone and started scrolling. That struck me as really interesting and odd. Odd because I did not expect and elderly person to be taking on that kind of habit which I thought is more of a habit from say Gen X and earlier.

I liked mine right off the bat. Started with the Series 0 and now have the Ultra. I'm a watch nerd and have a collection of traditional watches (which I also love) but if I could only have one watch, it would be an Apple Watch.
