was unlocked iphone 5s available alongside the locked iphones 5s in US right from day

Hey guys,I am considering buying an unlocked iphone 5s,but all the time I thought that unlocked iphone 5s was released alongside the locked version contrary to what some people it only released in US last week.

Some one please clarify me on that.

You're asking about the official sim-free version. People got them unlocked from day one by paying full price but they're the same phone.
