Watch Face sharing not working

Trying to share a watch face directly from the watch, long press, click the share button, and it thinks and then says "unable to share at this time, please try again later". Does it depend on some Apple Service that is down or overloaded I wonder? Is it working for anyone else?

Try rebooting your watch.

already had, but that didn't fix it. just tried rebooting the phone just now, and no dice...

I can share from the Apple Watch app on the phone, just not from the watch itself. Strange.
