My Watch keeps congratulating me on how much I stand in a day.

When I'm driving my car-it reports me as standing. At work at my desk, it also thinks I'm standing and the circle completes really quickly.

I've read other threads where people are nagged to stand, even though they already are, so my issues seems reverse.

Anyone else experience this?

You only need to stand (and move around) for one minute within an hour for it to count that hour. Are you saying that you don't stand up and move around at all for hours, but it's still counting those hours as ones in which you stood?

Thank you-you answered my question.

I easily stand up at least an hour-I didn't realise it would make it count for a full hour. Seems a bit easy of a target to achieve, no?

For people with desk jobs, sometimes a long time can go by without standing up and moving around, so some of us appreciate the reminders to get up and move. Others not so much. (but yes, I don't think I've had a day go by that I haven't met that target)

Indeed. The sad thing is, if I need to get up and do something that I know will only take a minute (like going to the kitchen for a cookie) and it's a few minutes before the top of the hour, I'll wait a few minutes so I get my stand credit for the next hour.

How our devices rule us :D

Haha! I love you!
When you first mentioned that your watch reports you as standing while you're driving, all I could picture was Dino Flintstone...

I wonder how often this happens? My (your) watch reminds me to stand up, so I stand up and go get some food. Partially defeats the purpose! :p

Sad. I don't try either way. If I get the credit for the previous hour, it's a good encouragement for me to move the next hour. I get probably 5-6 notifications a day to move, which is a good indicator that I need to move my butt out of my office chair more than I do. I've been moving every time I'm commanded by my Watch, and I'm glad I do!

All kidding aside, I try to get up and move around before I get the notification, as it tends to startle the heck out of me at times.

I do that, too. And the funny thing is that it was actually a cookie I went for one day when told to stand. Fortunately the watch has inspired me to move around a lot so I burned that cookie off!

I bought a Jawbone UP and UP24 last year and it too has a vibrating alert if you're idle for too long. Having worn the band for over a year now it's amazing how many little things you change in your day to "win". For example, even in the rain, I'll park at the back of the car park to get a few more steps in towards my daily total. or I'll make more than one trip when I need to move things from room to room. It's weird how it takes over and changes your behaviour.

I think this is what Tim Cook meant when he says that the Health & Fitness side of the watch is where he expects to see the most dramatic changes.

It's when it asks "were you exercising between 1am and 2am?" you know that somewhere on a server somewhere is a log of your sex life??

EDIT: Ok it really said: "were you exercising between 1:00am and 1:17am?"

I've noticed that sometimes mine will prompt me to stand when I've been standing and have just sat down. Im guessing it depends on the time that it's promoting me to stand . Weird.

There have been many recent studies, and the reason why Apple incorporated this feature, that show prolonged sitting, even if you're fit and work out regularly, can cause a number of health issues.

So even if you're just getting up to get some food, the important thing is that you're getting up.
