Does anyone know how you would compare the sound of this homepod mini to this ...

My friend has that and it sounds absolutely incredible.

Apple never releases specs which is super annoying. I don't care about siri and the home stuff. I just want a great speaker for music.
That looks pretty nice. But it is also appears quite big.

Since sound quality is heavily dependent on frequency response at the listening position, you can't put it on a spec sheet.
But as Apple's acoustics / sound engineering team isn't exactly shabby you can presume that it will sound excellent for the size and price.

It doesn’t seem like anyone is addressing the bass levels as it pertains to living in an apartment/shared space. The original HomePod DOES sound great, but it’s such a pain in the ass having to constantly adjust the volume when watching a movie or listening to music at night, as the bass is far too intense even at low volumes and will often wake the neighbors. With so many of us now spending all our time at home, this becomes an even bigger issue.

With no ability to EQ the HomePod while it’s connected to the Apple TV, my sole reason for interest in the Mini is to hopefully have a similar but less bassy experience.

Amazing, the $99 HomePod mini includes the 20W USB-C charger in the box, but the $129 MagSafe duo charger (which is essentially just 2 induction chargers in a portable design) doesn't. Wtf.

But at least you can put your iPhone on top of the round plate on the HomePod for MagSafe charging.

Simple.

It just works.

...wait...what...sorry but what do you mean when you say 'I got that all wrong'????

I just go with noise cancelling headphones or earbuds these days for the evenings. Best of both worlds: you can't disturb your neighbors and they can't disturb you.

YES, they should have just made the bottom chargeable by MagSafe and had an optional detachable cord. UGH. So dumb.

I believe that the HomePod Mini's bottom diameter already roughly matches the MagSafe charger. Besides there are a lot of design decisions in the HM (Her Majesty the HomePod Mini) that suggest that it was always meant to consume little power. Honestly at this point I'm certain Apple already has a battery-operated version in their labs. Whether they're sufficiently satisfied with it or not to release it, IDK. But it's the one I want :D.

I purchased 2 homepods minis, to replace my Amazon echo set up. Then I realized had a few Alexa enable smart items that I loved (including numerous smart plugs and switched, and my home security systems) and decided to stick with my echos. I love the idea of the homepod mini, and especially loved the price, but for a smart home you really can’t beat Amazon’s. Although the homepod minis sounds quality is better than comparably sized devices, I will just cancel my order.

I can't wait to get mine, especially after these reviews.

Yay, a mini homepod! Can't wait to take this camping, or to the Beach or for the BBQ!....oh wait. Tethered.
actually I imagine you can plug it into a portable battery and tether wifi from your phone's hotspot. I mean, if you really needed to lol ;)

We have everything Apple and I would love to add one of these. My wife uses her Bose speaker and I could have my own HomePod mini. I like the Siri and transfer phone to speaker sound feature.

We have been using an Amazon Echo Plus for a year, but been super annoyed by it lately. Alexa always answers with too much detail and the other day blasted music out of nowhere.

Nearly everything I own and use is an Apple product so I’m excited with how this will work with it all. Looking forwards to receiving mine when it releases.

Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping (also Things To Try)

toggle off whatever you don’t want Alexa to offer you
Thank you. After the minis arrive ill part with the last alexa device we have, but I will pass that on to friends that use them. I just really wish it was an opt in.

HomePod Mini seems to be good enough for what it is , but for $150 you can get Echo Studio , which sounds fantastic IMHO

How does that Echo Studio work for playing Apple Music - autonomously (without another device powered and booted), of course.

Siri seems to have gotten smarter! I still using Google Assistant on all my Apple devices still! Do not even know how to turn Siri back on now to try it out?

I may be in the minority, but I definitely miss the well written reviews of yesteryear than youtube videos yearning for clicks and subscriptions?
I don't have the time to sit through all the inane fluff in YouTube Reviews. Just give me a written text and I'll read what I am interested in. Net results is I'll blow off this while stupid review section. BTW, psychology research shows that what we read we process in a more cerebral intellectual way. What we see and hear goes to our more primitive brain functions that inform more immediate reactions like fight or flight. I'd rather think about what I'm reading. What a waste.
