Watch isn't silencing notifications when already read on another device

Has anyone else experienced an issue where you read a message on your computer or phone but your watch keeps giving you notifications? I'm been having this issue for the last couple of days and it's getting really annoying. Basically a text will come through and I have Messages active (in fact I'm typing in it, so it's not an inactive window) and my watch will ding like I haven't seen the message. It's not just messages though...It does the same for VIP emails as well. Everything was fine up until a few days ago. I've been on 4.1 since it came out and I've restarted my watch several times along with my phone.

I should also point out that yesterday when I restarted my watch, it hit me with over 20 notifications of older conversations (from hours earlier in the day).

I have this problem with my watch notifications as well. Series 0 os 4.1 with iPhone X 11.1.1

It’s getting annoying, message notifications used to work perfectly in all situations.
