Watch not making ding notification sound even though mute is off

I turned on mute in sound & haptics on the Watch app on my iPhone. I then got taps on my wrist but no ding sound. I found that I was missing the ding sound, so I turned off mute.

Now I do not get the ding sound even though mute is off. How do I get my Watch to start dinging again?

I'm assuming that the sound volume is maxed or up on the WATCH? What about Do Not Disturb, is that turned off? You could always try power-cycling the WATCH by holding down the side button.

I don't have my watch yet, but isn't there a sound option right in the watch settings? (separate from the watch app on the phone)

Yes it is maxed and do not disturb is off. I am technically power cycling it now because it's currently off. I'm waiting for a screen protector I installed to dry. When I start it back up tomorrow morning that should tell me if the power cycling worked.

If you swipe up on the watch to get that control panel where the airplane mode, DND, mute and ping your phone options are, see if mute maybe is still enabled there even though you unmuted from the iPhone app. It's a long shot but worth a check if you haven't checked that.
