Thanks, had no idea that existed.
Tried it, butter initially showing the watch face it goes black and can't get it back to life. Also seems that you have to invoke this every time you want to use it. 13PM and Ultra 2.
Regardless, do you know when this was introduced?
I unfortunately don’t but I think it was before iOS 18, but now thanks to iOS 18 you can use a toggle in Control Center.

Yes, that actually happened once when I was walking in the city. No step back, just lifted my leg and briefly held it with the hand to read the time. (That’s actually quite easy when the watch faces inwards.) They were confused for a moment and then chuckled IIRC.
Do you wear it against your skin or over your sock like the lady in the article? I don’t see the point of carrying it only for the time because you can just put it in your pocket. Does it accurately detect pulse and steps on your ankle?

You just cross your lower leg over the other knee. Similar to how when you want to see if you have dirt under your sole.

Like this (first-person perspective): ;)

Just saw this headline.

It's paywalled, maybe someone with a subscription can give us a gift link?

Anyway, I sometimes snap the watch onto my ankle when I'm doing dishes to avoid it getting wet. But it kind of never occurred to me that other people might also wear the watch on their ankle. Anyone here who does this?
Once met a surgeon who does this all of the time! Hygiene rules would prevent him from wearing a fitness tracker on his wrist at work.

This was a regular analog wristwatch, and it was long before smart watches existed. The point was the same as why you use a wristwatch instead of a pocket watch: it's always there, you don’t forget it in other clothes, and it"s almost as easy to use, just raise your ankle a bit.

That aside, step counting doesn't require nor benefit from skin contact. However, I'd use a $25 dedicated step counter for that. Those are more accurate than smart watches in my experience, the battery lasts for months, and they are also more light-weight. The one drawback is they don't keep a history.

Not to mention that all of the calibrations apple has done to make the watch as accurate as possible are thrown to the wind when worn on the ankle...

The more I think of it the more ridiculous it becomes. Wearing an Apple watch or any watch for that matter on your ankle is just ridiculous IMO!

It's a look at me statement.
