Hi all,

I used my Apple watch to track my swim today - I do this most days. Today was my first time tracking with Watch OS 5 and it has really screwed up the tracking of my swim. Take a look at two very similar swims below.

Note how different the calorie burn is. Also, today's swim was 108 lengths at 25m - 2700m total by my calculations. But not by Watch OS 5!!!

Anyone else had issues? Any ideas? (Today's swim, left, a few days ago very similar, right)

That's surprising. I'm not swimming a lot, maybe 3-4 times past year and I haven't tested how it works on WatchOS 5 yet, however..

I run everyday and I have noticed AW S3 on WatchOS 5 says I burn roughly 15-20% more calories. My workout hasn't changed one bit. I thought they have evaluated stuff and readjusted some values (as in, WatchOS 4 probably undercounted calories).

Overall, WatchOS 5 says I burn more calories daily (normal actions: walking, cleaning flat etc.).

I've also found that watchOS 5 shows I burn more calories, I had to up my daily move circle as I was easily hitting it each day.

That’s strange. I just check my running routine and watchOS 5 gave me less calories than watchOS 4.4. 530 vs. 600. Everything else (time, pace etc.) are comparable.
Maybe because I haven’t run outdoor to calibrate it yet but the time of both runs are close enough. 1:10:15 on 5 vs 1:11:54 on 4.4. (The distance are the same of course)

Hmmm, looking at my length times, I know that they were actually pretty consistent throughout, however it appears my watch has gone totally nuts! Varying from 7 seconds per length (call team GB Olympics selection!) to 29 seconds.

Yeah, those runs of mine were all outdoor. Maybe now that they calculate cadence they can more accurately calculate calories burned?

Hi all,

Just as an update... after my Apple Watch went crazy for that first workout on Watch OS 5, I rebooted my Apple watch and it has been acting normally ever since. Perhaps just a random discrepancy. Interestingly, like others have noted, my watch seems log log a few more calories burned using Watch OS 5.

Mine did the exact same thing. Swim tracking broke with OS 5. But it still does not work with reboots and even a full reset.
