Does anyone have this installed on a watch series 1 can answer a question I have please?

Are you able to connect to a WiFi hotspot without your iPhone now and manually type in a password etc?

At the moment it only does this if previously connected and doesn't require a password.

It was advertised somewhere but not sure if series 1. If not I'll upgrade to a newer after seeing what the next watch upgrade brings think

Thanks

If you really mean series 1 (not series 0) - on watchOS 5, yes, you can.

Yes I do its definitely a series 1, it's stamped on the back.

Great stuff. So you can now connect to any WiFi without an iPhone present, or do you have to have connected first still through an iPhone.

Thanks

Wait, I'm confused. I thought on a series 1 you needed the phone to go on the internet no matter what. So, with the new ios, you can connect to a hot spot with out your phone and do what? Messages, maps...?

Not sure what you can do, I'm trying to find this all out as well! Doesn't seem many watchOS 5 beta users with a series 1 unfortunately.

But I believe in the descriptions, that rather than having to first have your iPhone to connect to the WiFi spot, and then normally you didn't need it, just your watch, you can now go with just your watch, connect to a WiFi and type in WiFi password on your watch alone.

I presume after this then yes iMessage, and all apps should work - can someone confirm on series 1 please?

Maybe Apple holding back on this as negates a lot of the cellar use watch, in my usage anyway. Hope this is the case

I already said you can.

That was about the WiFi password, above was wanting confirmation on all the apps working after that.

Great news then, definitely don't need a cellular one now, thanks.

Just seen this, says beta not available for series 1? But on preview page says watchos 5 will be compatible for series 1?
