So this morning I was getting ready for work and took my Apple Watch Series 6 off the charger like I normally do. When I did so, my watch was freaking out and making a weird loud sound and trying to call 911 and send an emergency SOS. It took two tries before my watch would turn off and cancel the 911 call.

Now it won't turn back on and has the flashing Apple logo. I tried hard reset and everything.

Now before bed last night I restarted my iPhone 11 Pro Max it wouldn’t send a text ( recent switch to Esim to prepare for the 14 pro tomorrow).

My Apple Watch 6 is a GPS and cellular model and I also updated to Watch OS 9 earlier this week. I am thinking it might be a bug. But as of now, my Apple Watch is dead :(.

I going to try and set up an Apple Store appointment this evening after work. But yea crazy start to my Thursday...

Ugh. Sorry to hear that.

My Watch Series 5 stainless steel cellular crashed yesterday for the first time in a very long time, just 1 day after installing Watch OS 9. It was stuck at the same time, unchanging. I wasn't even doing anything with it. I don't think this version of the OS is ready for prime time. Luckily for me though I could reboot.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Did you get the issue with the iPhone figured out? I installed iOS 16 on my 13 Pro and Watch OS 9 on my wifi AW5 the other day and haven't had any issues.

Yea I never had any isssues with my Apple Watch Series 6 ( gps + cellular) since I got it during launch in 2020. Crazy that it only happened when I updated to Watch OS 9.

Yea my iPhone 11 Pro Max is working fine now running IOS 16. My Apple Watch is the one that's now having issues.

My wife and I both have series 5 and this update has been great so far. I really like the change in how notifications appear. This really has been a welcome update.

It just turned on at work. I thought it was working but went back and started calling 911 and sending SOS texts to family and friends by itself. This is so straange. I am hoping 911 doesn’t come to my job. I have an appointment sent for after work.

Out of curiosity - have you replaced something in 3rd party fixing company in this AW? I ask about not-Apple parts.
People in Mac Rumors were telling about bricking IPhones with such repairs after iOS 16 update.

Good luck with repair. Crossing my fingers to get it covered by Apple if it was never repaired

Yea I never sent it in for repairs anywhere. And it is under apple care so we will see it tonight. I am embarrassed cause it went off during a zoom meeting and people were looking at me strangely while I was painting to shut off the noise and stop the 911 calls.

Lucky someone didn't yell "I think he's having a heart attack!" with the beeping and you grabbing your arm lol

This could quite possibly be an issue with the side button. Try running the watch under some water to make sure there’s no gunk messing up the side button hardware.

I had the same issue this morning. My Apple Watch 6 tried to call emergency service. The slider to stop the call won’t work, so I turned of the watch. Restart isn’t possible, just apple logo appeared for a few seconds.
I was taking a shower right before that issue so I thought there was possible water inside, but after reading your post I am sure the problem is in watchOS 9.
„Funny“ thing: a few weeks ago my iPad 6 had similar problems after upgrade to iPad OS 16 beta. Both (watch and Pad) are killed.

Update: my watch started and is working. It has again twice the issue calling emergency. After pressing the side button a couple of times the malfunction is gone. Because I took a shower right before, maybe some water came inside and shortcircuit the sidebutton. I put my watch in a plasticbag with silicagel and vacuum it. I will see if the malfunction happen again.

I think the same thing happen to me but in a different way.

My Apple Watch 7 refused to turn on. It just suddenly stopped working.

I had to force restart it then it worked again.

Weird.

That's crazy. Yea mine is working fine now I think it might have also got water on the side button.
