Same question happens with every product... Why buy the 2nd version when eventually Apple will release a 3rd version in a few years, and on and on. It's a personal choice (plus a 14 day return policy, only buy directly through Apple or you'll be sorry).

Very happy with my Apple Watch! So far it's done exactly what Apple advertised it to do.

One way to look at it, is that instead of thinking about when the next version will come, you could think what Apple actually could do to improve the current watch.

Here is my list:
  • Adding more sensors (fitness)
  • Adding GPS
  • Extending battery life
  • Making it speedier
  • Making the screen brighter outdoors
  • Better software (would probably be available for 1st gen Apple watch also).
  • Making it slightly thinner (however this might be hard if they want to do all of the above...)

All of these features are nice and would make the watch better, but it would not change how it works drastically. I don't believe that they will accomplish all of this for the next release if the next release is very soon...

Would also be interesting to know how consumer would react in regards to yearly updates for the apple watch. Is that something we actually would want? Or is updates every two years (with more drastic changes, skip the "s" version) better?

If my wife think this much before she buy her thousand $$ USD hand bag, I will be very happy.
Let along something cost less than $1,000USD.
