Since I updated my series 7 watch to os9, it rings even when it is not on my wrist. I chatted with Apple support and they had me do a few things and ran diagnostics, but they couldn't find anything wrong. They had someone with senior support call me and he did more diagnostics and sent in a ticket to have it looked at. They are supposed to call me Saturday with an update.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.

All my watches do that regardless of series or iOS. I have several on rotation and one is usually on the charger and it will ring whether I'm home or not. (GF always knows when I'm getting a call)

Really? Mine never did that before. I have mine on my charger when I'm just sitting at my desk working. I'd rather not hear the phone and the watch ring, but it's not that big a deal. Will be interesting to see what support says about it.

Hi Sheranne! What was the outcome of the discussion with the support ?
I ve purchased and LTE SE 2022 and indeed when not wearing it and while being locked, it does get the phone calls and rings when not on mute.
Is this a normal behavior ?

Many thanks in advance

I gave up on support after we did troubleshooting twice. The Apple rep said it is not a normal behavior. They escalated the probem to the engineers, but since I didn't keep our 3rd appointment for troubleshooting, I don't know what happened with it.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Is it the LTE model of series 7?
I have his with my LTE se and it’s doing it even while charging, while not connected to the phone, not on WiFi or autonomous on 4g. In whatever occasion is connected, it will receive any calls.

Are you receiving while off the wrist notifications like WhatsApp ?

In my situation only calls nothing else

Many thanks in advance
Alex

My watch is a series 7 GPS only. I don't get notifications off the wrist, just phone calls.

We got in contact yesterday with Apple support and also got another SE gps. They told us that it’s completely normal behaviour and this is why both devices operate on the same way

I agree ! But again it’s something super easy for everyone to test on their own. We tried in one se 2022 lte one gps se and one ultra.
And also root cause analysis in case someone received notification sounds while watch is locked and off wrist is because the user unlocked the watch while holding it, did something and then let it down !
The watch goes completely off from notifications only while wearing it and take it off but while it’s on the table and user unlocks manually, the watch lets notifications pass through and ring from the watch

Interesting. Two conflicting answers from Apple support.
Misinformation on my end and I apologise.
I just checked the setup of my wife’s SE ( 1st gen 4G) and she had the passcode deactivated and this is why was receiving the calls while off the wrist. Entered passcode and wrist detection and indeed when off the wrist doesn’t let calls ring or any notifications.

So we have either the problematic ones or ….?

Have you tried reset and removing passcode and wrist detection I suppose right ?

What should I do actually mine is five days old should I return it back ?

But from Apple they did told me it’s normal and in order to avoid the calls I should either put it on silent or focus more.

My AW7 LTE ringing on charger and my wifes AW5 GPS not ringing on charger. Setting are same. 😵‍💫

They told me from Apple Store that the sensor was faulty and I returned back for full refund. They told me that it shouldn’t receive any calls while off the wrist

My series 8 LTE also rings while not on the wrist. My old series 6 GPS did not do that. I have wrist detection on and i use passcode as well. My 8 LTE does not have eSIM activated. It only rings, it does not receive any other alerts while not on the wrist.

My 7 LTE without installed rSIM does the same. The gps only SE from my girlfriend does not.

Mine do this as well, they continue ringing even after I answer the call on my iphone, very annoying.

My watch has never rung while not wearing or on the charger but then I do not have cellular activated. 🤣

Watch ringing when it's not on your wrist may be due to an alarm or reminder that was set on the watch.

To turn off the ringing, you will need to locate the buttons on your watch and press them until the alarm or reminder turns off. So the specific button or combination of buttons needed to turn off the ringing will vary depending on the make and model of your watch. So you may need to refer to the manual or do a quick online search to find the instructions for your particular watch.

If you're unable to turn off the ringing, it may be because the watch is malfunctioning or has a low battery. In this case, you may need to take it to a watch repair shop or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
