I own an original Apple watch S0 and since upgrading it to watch OS 4 nightstand mode is not working any more. It is enabled on my iPhone and on the watch. I have tried hard resetting the iPhone and the watch but still no luck. Any ideas?

I’ve had the same issue.
Disabled it and renabled it with no change.
Using official Apple charger also.

I just noticed the strangest thing, if I place the watch on it’s side on the table and connect it to the charger nighstand mode works, but if I put the charger into a stand that I have for the watch and place it on its side on the stand nightstand mode doesn’t work. This never happened before.

I just tried that and it worked! But like you, not on my stand. This has been bugging me since I installed update! Thanks!

I’m glad that it worked for you. I guess that it has something to do with the watch being slightly leaned back when it’s on the stand but it’s perfectly upright when placed on a table without a stand.

I had the exact same problem. After leaning it forward a few times while it was still on my stand Nightstand Mode stuck. The first few times it would switch off as it leaned back but after the third or fourth time it stayed on. Thanks for the tip.

Have a iPhone - Apple Watch - AirPod stand. Have to tilt it an additional 45 degrees before the nightstand mode kicks in. But once it’s kicked in it stays. Hope that helps.

Mine seems fine. My charger (a Native Union one) keeps my watch upright though so if it’s about the watch being tilted I’ve avoided the problem.

Thanks guys, been turning it off and on to no avail, then tried tilting my stand (which holds watch@ 45 degrees) to vertical, now it works until I remove and put back on. Minor annoyance compared to all the other thing I tried. Big help since my cat sleeps in front of digital clock on dresser! Apple needs to adjust angle in software. Does anyone at Apple read this forum?

I don't think so, it works only when on the charger and is sensitive to angle. If it worked off the charger, then if you hit the right angle on your wrist, you would lose you watch functions.

But maybe instead it should be a watch face so you can use it when you want.

But it would be 90 degrees to all the others, would be going across your wrist, annoying.
You would only use it as a nightstand clock. Am I right that there is no way to use the watch as a nightstand clock unless it's charging? I get such good battery life from my AW3 that I don't always want to charge it every night and it would be good to be able to use it as a nightstand clock without it having to be charging.

Brilliant!! Thanks for the workaround!
