My daughter’s watch does not appear to be paired to her current phone. It’s possible it is still somehow paired to her phone we sold months ago (is that even possible if that phone was erased and restored to factory settings)?

Believe you will need to factory reset the watch and setup as new on the new iPhone. This should work as long as her account is still the same. You will of course unfortunately lose all data (fitness, health, activity, etc).

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking, but I was afraid to do it without asking.

When setting up a new Apple Watch, the user should be presented with an option to restore from an old watch.

When selling an Apple Watch it‘s better to perform this task from iPhone and Watch App. To make sure iCloud lock is removed for next owner.

U must first unpair your watch from the old phone before pairing to new phone so use the Apple watch app on your phone then select the

and unpair.

here's a helpful link that Apple support has and you can most everything needed for you and family here.
