chuckles. Sorry, but if your AV is current, or even if its made up, you aint an older middle aged dude...unless um...you think petting your cat is young and cool.. ducks..

just trying to lighten the moment. but yeah. not middle aged.
I'm 40, so yep - definitely middle aged - haven't updated my profile picture on here in like 10 years. Same cat is still asleep next to me as I type this though 😂

naw... still a puppy. you don't start really living until you move out of your parents house, which typically starts around 18... you got a lot of living ahead. 50. Thats the new middle aged :)

edit: do agree with your choice of cats. have two green eyed black cats ourselves. admittedly more my wife's than mine, but still. they tolerate me. they are the right blend of independent but family orientated and tend not to whine too much.

I am not debating the man's talents, cred, or genius, just debating the read your crowd moment that led to thinking that was the choice for that venue.
A Black artist criticizing the US government and pedophilia while performing in New Orleans? I'd say that was dead on the money for the venue. Art is political and Lamar used his stage well, especially if it pissed people off.

(For those lacking context: Gayle Benson -- the owner of the Saints -- has used the Saints organization to protect and bolster the reputation of the local archbishop who's been shielding the pedo priests. As for the US government, let's just say that the effects of the federal flood are still felt here.)

Shrugs. Sorry. Sure, let him schedule a concert and voice his politics at Caesar's. Do it on his own dime and that would be even a stronger statement. I might even choose to attend.

Just saying, for those that go to a sport event to escape politics, I don't think he changed their minds on anything and perhaps antagonized them further.

It's all opinions. I support his message, I don't need to virtue signal, just questioning the timing. I suppose if someone wants a moment of peace they can just go sit in the middle of a lake in a row boat.

That’s interesting that everyone you know is in the small minority. That’s quite a statistical feat!
Is there some kind of empirical evidence you have to prove you are in the majority?

And does it matter…? This is quite a juvenile and boring argument.

I understand the sentiment, but also you have to understand that a lot of the protests done at football games, be it a subversive half time show or a kneel, is literally done because they have a lot of eyes on them and it is an issue that they feel is important. Yeah, Kendrick can just keep it to his concerts but that's preaching to the choir. They gave him a larger stage. He took it. And for those that didn't appreciate the message, they can just ignore the politics and enjoy or not enjoy the Drake beef. By the sounds of everyone singing from the stands, a lot of them enjoyed it.

What about the one with The Who?
I’m a person in their 60s who generally favors rock bands. Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen were both fantastic. But The Who, I think, ruined it for classic rock bands at the Super Bowl. They were absolutely terrible that night. Roger Daltry couldn’t sing a lick and their choice of songs wasn’t great either. I have always felt that the halftime shows should be a party atmosphere and one of the best rock bands to do that would be AC/DC. But that’s just me.

I have nothing personal against rap or hip-hop artists. And more power to them that they are successful. But for me personally, I just grew up on music that had melodies. To me hip-hop sounds like someone talking over a drum machine. I am not questioning the quality of the lyrics, but I cannot listen to the two layered on top one another, not in sync For me, rap is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Again nothing personal against this type of music that’s just the reaction that I have when I hear it.

Again I’ll ask, can someone articulate what this message was that the rapper was trying to subtly convey? I keep seeing ppl make glancing reference to it, so maybe enlighten those of us that changed the channel when it came on.

All I know about it I read after the fact. Here is a pretty simple run down: https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-kn...erformance-serena-williams-drake-not-like-us/

In addition to what @DavidLeblond posted, this article was posted upthread by @Capeto and I found it good as well.

Seeing The Who at that Super Bowl perform and do their best made it a great show.
IMO, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend pulled a great show.
I also remember McCartney performed at a previous Halftime Show, I don’t remember much of it, I’ll look for it in YouTube.
Also, Prince, Michael Jackson…. who else… mmm.

You make it sound like Hip Hop just came out. It's been out for decades. Age has nothing to do with disliking monotonic droning over a short beat loop. The music presented at the half-time show was nothing compared to the likes of the legendary Public Enemy.

I appreciated almost everything else about the half-time show, though.
You haven't read comments I was replying to.
They didn't say "this wasn't good hip-hop", which was a legitimate opinion we may have debated about. They were just useless rants about music these days, by people who would have reacted the same way if Public Enemy had just given their greatest performance.

I traditionally take my dogs out for a walk during the Super Bowl halftime. It's cold where I live and it's usually golden sunset hour and they need to romp in the snow. A side feature of these walks or hikes is that I usually have to pick up the doggie poop with one of those plastic doggie bags. I enjoyed that much better than the few minutes I caught of whatever that was on the stage.

I suppose adults aren't all that interested in a musician with a Pulitzer prize and 22 Grammys?
there is no more ridiculous measure of quality or popularity of music than a grammy. Award shows are such a joke all around in this day. I rag on bands I like who get grammy's cus there's far better choices out there. lol

I think we don’t need further analysis. The fact is that here (as in X and FB) a lot of people expressed its dislike for last night’s show. That’s the point and fact, period.
"Fact", huh? Are you suggesting that Facebook and Twitter is accurately showing you all the different opinions on something like this, or are they showing you the opinions that are likely to get higher engagement from you?

Totally agree. Can’t even understand what the singer was saying. Time to bring back classic bands or some other star, who is not R&B. The last three Superbowls half time shows have been similar. NFL needs to mix it up. You are the Superbowl, so act like it and only have major bands/stars perform.
i’m sorry…what? 🤣 Kendrick released his fifth number-one album last year, continuing a nearly 15-year-long run as rap’s best; SZA’s last proper album was the first R&B album to spend as long as it did atop the charts since Whitney’s peak. truly, there is only one thing being shown as out-of-touch here, and it’s not the NFL…

I respect that you liked, but most people don’t.
Sounds like a one sided argument being stated as a fact. Facts are objective and is backed by evidence. Putting something in quotes without any actual reputable source doesn’t make it a fact. It makes it an opinion being pawned off as a fact which looks desperate.

Super Bowl not Superbowl. One is the biggest game of the year while the other is something you find at a ramen restaurant.
I’ll let you fig out which is which.
