A new ad for Apple Arcade released today blends the real world with the virtual one while showcasing several games available on the service, including LEGO Builder's Journey and Ultimate Rivals: The Rink.

Apple Arcade launched in September, providing iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac users with access to over 100 games with no in-app purchases or ads for $4.99 per month in the United States. The latest titles include co-operative augmented reality game Secret Oops! and family-friendly battle royale game Butter Royale.

The one-minute ad is accompanied by an animated "livestream" of Oceanhorn 2, another game available on Apple Arcade.

Apple Arcade has also taken over Apple.com, possibly as part of a larger advertising campaign timed with the Super Bowl today.

I have Apple Arcade for a few cool games but now that I'm done with those I just don't find they add enough content. New games barely trickle in every month. I'm not one to just play a game because its there on the service. I have to really want to play the game. Really considering canceling it if they don't step up the amount of new content each month.

I like RPG games and there just are not enough on there right now. Maybe those that prefer time waste type of games find more value in it but that's not me. Honestly the three games I did play I would have rather just paid for them so I would have them forever.

I'm kind of wondering what kind of person pays a subscription fee for mobile phone games...

I don't know... Maybe it's because most of the games are high quality? And you can play them not just on your iPhone but on your iPad, Apple TV, and even your Mac? I mean, other than those reasons, yeah, why would anyone play $5/month to play a bunch of good games on a bunch of different devices??

You can always cancel the subscription, and if a new game comes out that interests you, start the subscription again.

I wonder if it is because Apple Arcade isn't doing as well as they are expected.

Huh, so most companies only advertise if a product isn't doing well? That's a new one to me.

Yep, as I said in the post right above. Thank you for making my point. An Apple fan, certainly not a game fan.

This is not most companies, this is Apple. So, when, exactly, was Apple's last super bowl ad? I don't seem to recall one for actual successful products this century.

I do, to protect my child from the total crap games the Apple App Store is otherwise filled up with - full of (often violent) ads, in-app purchases required to actually play etc.

As a parent I feel much more better about games that Apple has manually curated.

It also gives better gameplay - almost all other other App Store games are mainly designed to make the most money, Apple Arcade games can focus on the best gameplay.

I think Apple Arcade is great. However more high quality games like Oceanhorn 2 would be great.

Games look fun. Price is great. In the ad, I see people completely absorbed with their screens and missing out on interacting with the world and people around them. I completely see the value in a service like this...but it is a real shame that we would rather choose to focus on our device.

Yesterday, I almost hit a group of three teenagers who stepped off the curb against a red light while watching their phones. Not that they even noticed me standing on the brakes, though two of them did flip me off after I honked. I hope they didn't miss something important.

To “real” gamers who can’t understand why you would pay for a subscription mobile game service - you’re missing some real gems!
Sure, gems that disappear when you stop paying. No thanks. And it's prevented at least one game from ever being sold normally on the Mac (Cat Quest II). I only buy on GOG these days, to prevent companies from taking stuff away...witness the Warcraft III Reforged disaster for yet another reason why.

i would think ti's the other way around that the numbers are looking good so they want to build on it. if it was jsut a save as sinking ship strategy they'd be pushing apple news+

Have you played any of the Apple Arcade games? There are some legitimate high quality games on it. And I didn’t know being an Apple fan precluded me from being a game fan. 🙄

1999 - Apple’s Y2K commercial. And more importantly, correlation does not imply causation.
