Apple TV+ today released the official trailer for upcoming comedy series "Ted Lasso," which will be available to stream starting August 14.

In the series, Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer. Sudeikis was a longtime "Saturday Night Live" cast member and is also known for his roles in films such as "We're the Millers" and "Horrible Bosses."

When I saw that they were going to make a TV show out of a character developed for a TV ad, my immediate thought was "well that will be terrible". Now I know it's a fish-out-of-water story about an American coaching a football team in England - my low expectations essentially went antipodal. Speaking as a British ex-pat living in the USA - this looks ****ing woeful.

Who is approving all of these shows that look horrendous?

The same people that aren't able to say "no" to all of the OS bloat.

It's about soccer. How good can it be? :):)

Seems okay but the premise sounds really dumb. Not even vaguely realistic... can you imagine this premise happening in real life?

Wondering who's attention they are trying to grab here too.

I am American and love the EPL, but that is not typical! As my interest in euro football has grown my interest in american football has decreased respectively.

Well there's been plenty of instances in the UK where uber-rich individuals with zero knowledge or experience of football have bought top-tier clubs and tried to manage them.

I imagine that the premise of this happening with a coach in the series will perhaps be explained away by a hilarious misunderstanding over the word "football".

Does Apple REALLY believe come November when most free subscriptions run out, many will actually pay for this stuff?

That’s why AppleTV+ (free trial) auto-renew can’t be turned off. Quite sneaky I’d say.

I don't get who this is really for? Europeans who love football are just gonna role their eyes, and do americans even like football? Hollywood makes first fun of EuroVision on Netflix, and now football on Apple TV+.

Fair play to Apple for meeting my expectations. As an Englishman and life long “soccer” fan, after reading the synopsis and proceeding to watch the trailer, it is exactly as awful and patronising as I envisaged it would be.

Well...done?

Next up on Apple TV+ - a remake of Escape to Victory!

It seems like everyone appears to be an over the top stereotypical version of English.
It’s like the entire cast and crew have done a location shoot in England and said do what you think they act and sound like. The guy who is supposed to be Welsh doesn’t even sound Welsh.
Also why have they decided to base it in what looks like South London?
As if anyone thinks that’s going to give a realistic view of typical British and football culture.
