I watched a grand total of one episode of Iron Fist.

Netflix is bad.
I wasnt a fan of Iron Fist either, doesn't make Netflix bad. Stranger things, the OA, Ozark, are very good IMO and worth the price of Netflix with all of thier back catalogue of movies and tv shows. Apple TV... Not so much. Even if there were two shows i thought that were the best ever, Apple TV+ still isnt a good deal with out any backlog content.

He is responding to the other user who commented that he saw one episode of Morning Show and then promptly wrote off not just The Morning Show, but TV+ in its entirety. He is flipping the sentiment and showing how utterly ridiculous it is. I agree that Netflix has a bunch of good shows (not Ozark btw - Breaking Bad ripoff in my opinion. I didn't enjoy it. But Stranger Things is amazing).

I’m sorry your upset that I dont think Apple TV is something special. Not my thing. I watch cooking and car shows. Not much else. Hence Apple TV is lacking for me.

OK. That's fine. But don't write off an entire streaming service after watching one episode of a show that you concede you had no interest in (genre'wise) from the get go. Look, I'm into detective fiction and prestige dramas, and I have those in spades on TV+.

What do you mean?

In your Apple subscriptions, under edit subscription you’ll see the text “If you cancel you and your family members will immediately loose access to Apple TV+ and the remainder of your 1 year free trial. You can’t reactivate this trial.”

In effect the free trial is contingent on leaving auto-renew enabled. Now it is a free trial, so perhaps I shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. But I think at some level Apple is just hoping for auto-renew momentum to keep users subscribed.

hmm I’ve only heard white people called gringos so there’s a bit more to it than simply being American

If you go to Latin America you will be called Gringo in any country right away no matter your race. It is like calling someone who speak Spanish "Latino" at a glance. It is like calling "Chinese" even if you are from Korea or Japan "Chino".

Americans love football, but football this is not. This is SOCCER. Soccer, not so much.

It is football. You are the only nation that calls it "soccer". I mean, the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is the organization that has more countries subscribed, even more than the United Nations. Sorry, majority wins.

The majority of the world calls what you call soccer, football. Our football prohibits players from using their hands in general play and therefor relying on their foot. In your football it is rare for you to use an actual foot for play, and it virtually never happens in open play.
Our football also predates your version of football, which in itself is a version of rugby, which was a spin off of our football.
Additionally our football is becoming more popular in North America. The MLS is going from strength to strength and will likely have more teams than the NFL in the coming years. In Canada our football has overtaken Canadian football in popularity.

It seems like everyone appears to be an over the top stereotypical version of English.
It’s like the entire cast and crew have done a location shoot in England and said do what you think they act and sound like. The guy who is supposed to be Welsh doesn’t even sound Welsh.
Also why have they decided to base it in what looks like South London?
As if anyone thinks that’s going to give a realistic view of typical British and football culture.

I know nothing about England or British culture and comedy (beyond what years of Top Gear and now The Grand Tour portrays). Sad to hear that this misses the mark by an incredibly long shot.

I think they have all the money, influence, armies of writers, etc to be able to do something quite unique, immersive and beyond. Yet either they are trying to play it ultra safe, some in control are being control-freaks along the production or the creators themselves knowingly that Apple is the client they constrain themselves to what they see and think about Apple as a culture.

A lot of the shows are far from bold and end up leaving quite light and unpalatable after taste. As in... "it's... ok, I guess".

Same with the Movie picks, decided to watch Greyhound and it was great all the naval strategy deep dive, however, by the end... can't explain it, it's no Private Ryan or similar for sure.

So they actually turned those old NBC commercials where Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso who becomes Spurs' coach into AN ENTIRE SERIES? Wow. They're following the usually-crappy SNL formula of taking a sketch and trying to milk it into a feature film.

they you miss out on Dear…
i think we can expect more commercial to show adaptations. I wouldn't mind a show called I'm A Mac. maybe they can license the little girl from the taco shell commercial for a show called Why Not Both?

It’s not Apple’s fault, it’s the producers fault. It has been something that has been a problem for loads of shows and movies, in fact in the past even our own broadcasters would only broadcast shows that displayed middle class British people.
A big problem is many of our famous actors are nothing more than middle or upper class privately educated people. They wrongly display that we all speak queens English. No one speaks it, only the queen and the very wealthy.
London itself has a range of accents, the most famous being Cockney. Someone from Birmingham speaks differently to someone in London. Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds have very different accents to each other, and they are fairly close to each other, being no more than about 60 miles or so from each other.
Come to where I live in Newcastle, and you wouldn’t be able to understand what someone is saying if they have a thick accent, the same applies in Scotland. Welsh is a very distinct accent, and should be something an actor portrays well if they are playing a Welsh person.

In terms of this show, it looks like it’s being set in what is possibly the least footballing area of England, if not the UK. South London isn’t a hot bed for football. They have about 2 professional clubs and isn’t really a footballing hotbed. In all honesty Northern England is the footballing hotbed, that’s not to dismiss the fact that there is big clubs in the south and London.
There is a famous saying that Northerns say in England, you’ll never see an Englishman in London.

It’s absolutely cringe worthy when English people are portrayed this stereotypical way, you just can’t watch it. Hugh Grant has a lot to answer for.

Looks good - seems to be based on these sketches here that were pretty funny.

Apple definitely need to look into buying some classic content or striking some deals with some networks. I think them also buying some of those subscription non-fiction companies like Beachbody would definitely fit in with their moves into the fitness areas.

The problem with football and "American Football" here in the U.S. is this... "American Football" can be interrupted for commercial breaks, the amount of equipment and uniforms is a market as well, then the cheer leaders (very necessary, they need half naked women to keep you engaged) and the band (to keep you awake). So all that amount of parafernalia on a game that no one last and the rest of the world do not care about... generates money.

On the other han, football is very simple, you just need to kick something, it does not need cheer leaders, uniforms and all that stuff, it is a cheap sport and anybody can play it and understand it. And gringos do not like that, what about uniforms? for cheerleaders, the band and the players? Tons of people would end up out of business AND you can not stop the game every 3 minutes for commercials.

That is it! it is not about the game, is about all the contracts.

It is like world peace, there is nothing worst for the U.S. than world peace, what are they going to do with so many contractors and weapons? same thing.

Football (soccer) is growing in popularity. I understand that the stop and start nature of American football is good for advertisers, but with traditional football (soccer) you can get sponsorship out onto the the shirts and training wear.
I guess it’s possibly only a matter of time before US Sports do that.

As for cheerleaders, even singing the national anthem etc, that’s all American culture. There is no reason why they can’t be included to the pre-match rituals in the USA, it’s more of a culture thing as to why it doesn’t work over here. Interestingly Crystal Palace once had cheerleaders before the match and at half time. They are a South London team, and going by the trailer for the show, it’s who the team in this show are based upon, both their shirt colours, and stadium feature heavily in it.

this looks like borat, a toilet comedy.

they should have more shows like the morning show
There's a place for this kind of show. It's not toilet comedy, btw. It will end up being an emotional underdog story with a comedy undertone. Ted Lasso is going to start as a fish out of water and end up turning a struggling football team around. People thought little of Mythic Quest from the trailers too, that show turned out incredible, and I think you'll find "Dark Quiet Death" from Mythic Quest is as good as The Morning Show.

Remember this... many wars have been fought on futball matches...

Remember the Falkland islands, where the British won the war against Argentina in 1982. And THEN in 1986 Argentina and England ended up in the finals at the World Cup in Mexico City. How can you beat that???? and is when Maradona was playing and did a goal with his hand and it was called The Hand of God. Everybody knows what the Hand of God is. And Argentina won that year. What are the odds???

So many things happens at the world cup. Because every country in the world go to semi finals in their own continent first. It is more than the Olympic Games. It is more toward the Hunger Games. Arabia has to play against Irak... and they are at war! and they play! The U.S. has to play against Latin Americans... it is amazing all the connotations.

why have the next best thing when we can have the hunger games for real instead.
