I have an EyeTV Hybrid ready and waiting for my 27" iMac. I've tried it with my MacBook and it works flawlessly! The recording features are top notch and you can even buy the iPhone App to schedule recording or stream TV to watch on the move :)

Call your cable company (or visit one of their service centers) and ask them if the firewire ports on your box are enabled. If not, ask them to give you one that has firewire enabled ports. They are mandated by law to provide you with one upon request.

Then try using a six-pin to nine-pin firewire cable (for the firewire 800 port on your Mac) or 6 pin to six pin cable (for a firewire 400 port on your Mac). I got it to work using the latter type cable with my Explorer 4250 and late 2006 24" imac.

Here's a decent tutorial:

Good luck! :)

My cable company said that they aren't enabled and that there is nothing they can do about it. The technician did hint at possibility that it can be modified some how.

Is there anyway I can enable the firewire ports myself by updating the firmware?

Record firewire/SDK stream?

With the firewire SDK method, is there any way to record the feed? (preferably a free option)? I have the same Motorola box in the Youtube video linked to earlier and a firewire cable on the way.

I have a Rogers Explorer 4250HD box, the firewire ports are not enabled. Is there some sort of solution that will enable it? If not, is there a box I can get that has the firewire ports enabled?

SA 4350 box not recognized in new 27 inch iMac

I have Scientific Atlanta 4350HD and I'm trying to connect it to my 27-inch iMac but it doesn't show up in System Profiler orAVC browser. It works fine with my macbook pro and I've been using this for a long time. I check to see if the firewire in my iMac is working. It seems to recognize other devices other than the cable box. I'm getting really frustrated because i can't find any explanations that will cause this. My firewire on the iMac is fine. The cable box ports are enabled and working as well as the Firewire 400-800 cable since I'm able to view it in my Macbook pro without problems. So why this doesn't work in the iMac confuses me. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

My provider is DirecTV. Is there a way for my fiancee to watch whatever she wants on the normal TV and then for me to watch something different on my Mac (without the need for a 2nd box)? I am not sure I understand exactly what EyeTV would do for me.

I gave up my eyetv for a slingbox. I finally have HDTV displayed on my iMac from my directv receiver. Channel selection is a little slow, but for the most part, it's just like watching directv on a regular TV.

My AV/C recognizes the Comcast cable box but when I click Start Viewer and click on Play button on the VLC viewer, this window pops up... I need to find out what port my udp is... but how??
