I had a hell of a time upgrade my watches.

On the watch. i placed mine in airplace for a few minutes.
During that time I rebooted the phone.
When the phone stated back up I then put the watch airplane mode off.

Then I pinged my phone to the watch, just to verify it was communicating.

put the watch back on the charger and watched it.

It finally took.

I've had this problem with various watchOS updates. Usually you just need to wait it out.

I’ve seen this before when an iphone was low on space. Deleting some apps, deleting the watch download file and retrying resolved it.

I have almost half of my phone completely free, so I don’t know what this is about

Something is buggy with the Watch OS 6 update. It took forever to update my watch. I had to do a hard reboot on the watch to finish the install.

After 4 hours of sending the update to my S3.
