All you need is the s-video adapter and a composite video cable. As long as your tv has inputs for RCA style connector on the front or back you dont need to go out and buy that other stuff.

Not all tv's over here have S-Video or RCA inputs because Scart does it all :)

would be useful to know what model television mala is using :)

Webmat, yeah, I have one of those, but my PowerBook doesn't have the right holes for the colouredy thingies.

Gary, my TV is a state-of-the-art Panasonic; unfortunately that state dates back to 1989, when I moved into this house and bought a dear television because the price of the mortgage was going to preclude any wild living for a while.

OK, I now have the TV showing the *desktop*. This is using the S-Video to the S-Video-to-SCART adapter (the thing Webmattijs pictures). But it's not showing the film on the TV screen.

Another source tells me that his iBook sets the screen resolution automatically to "TV" when he plugs it into a TV. My System Prefs don't offer "TV". He also said to look for Dual Monitors in the System Prefs; I can't find any such preference. (He said that when he does this, if he opens DVD Player, its screen on the computer screen is blank, but the film plays on fullscreen on the TV.)

While the TV shows my desktop, it doesn't show what's *on* the desktop; that is to say, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't - usually it shows just the desktop, with the apple menu at top, but it doesn't show the Macintosh HD icon, or any windows I have open, including those of programs I might be running (such as DVD Player).

While connected to the TV restart the mac or put it to sleep and wake it back up.

Goto system prefs --> displays and put them to mirror mode, the display on the powerbook will be reduced to that of the tv. Make sure the res on the tv is set to PAL and about 640x480 @ 50hz then play the dvd.

I have mine plugged into my projector via S-Video because Im too lazy to run VGA cables in the walls.

Gary, where do I find mirror mode in the display preferences? The only things it shows are screen resolutions, colours and Detect Display, oh, and Brightness. And how do I know if the TV is set to PAL mode, please?
