Watching Movies with Home Sharing

If I setup home sharing on an Apple TV and want to watch purchased movies that are on my laptop (both using same iTunes Account), would the movies then stream over the LAN without any need for internet? I am wanting to use my laptop as the storage device for all my purchased movies but want to make sure internet is not needed for this setup.

During my last move; I learned you need the internet to to turn on Home Sharing (something I think about making sure the computer is authorized) if you’ve already done that prior, you shouldn’t need internet and will be playing away.
I accidentally turned off home sharing at the time but was able to use my iPhone for the iMac to get internet access, turned home sharing back on and then disconnected internet.

When you downloaded movies offline you don't need internet connection..
