I just installed WatchOS 10.0.2, which is supposedly only for the Ultra and Series 9 watches.

As best as I can tell, my Ultra 2's brightness level now never dims below the point where I can comfortably read the watch face. I've been in and out of a windowless room to test this.

Can anyone else confirm?

I haven’t been near a charger yet. Should be within 3 hours from now. I’ve seen mixed reports. If this doesn’t fix it I’m going to compare mine with the Apple Store display and see if it warrants a replacement.

For me, the AOD does now look about as bright as it was on the AWU1, but I haven’t yet tested the screen brightness in a dark room. That’s the big question for me.

What face do you use? I'm using the new Solar Analog and it was the worst switching from Series 5 to AWU2 because on the ultra 2 i can only see the hands, but really couldn't see the lines (dial) around the outside edges.

Still terrible. S5 vs U2. These are both on AOD.

Yeah I take my comment back. AOD doesn’t seem like it changed from the prior software version.

I think that they are really taking advantage of this 1 nit brightness feature and prioritizing battery life. It’s anecdotal but the battery life I’m seeing on the AWU2 is really phenomenal, a noticeable improvement over the AWU1. Even though they made no claims of better battery life, I’m seeing it in action.

Me too. My battery life is fantastic. But this AOD has me considering returning the watch.

What I don’t understand is how the difference of a single nit (AWU2’s min in 1 nit vs AWU1 is 2 nits) is that visibly noticeable. I know it sounds crazy but to me it is. That’s in a very dark room.

What nit the AWU1 had in AOD mode vs AWU2’s is a mystery. I wonder if the delta is greater than a single nit.

Watch is barely useable in the dark.. tested in a dark kitchen, driving with Apple Maps doing its thing.. new update did nothing. Return imminent

I updated today. I am still having issues with night mode on the U2. When I tap to wake, the screen gets bright. Then it dims down and gets bright again. Sometimes night mode will flash on when it gets dim. If I turn off night mode, it works fine. I'm not sure if it is a software issue or hardware. Nobody else seems to be talking about it.
