AFAIK it exists already on MacOS though It never would drop my MBA below 100% and I eventually switched to Al Dente to manually set the charge limit.
Optimised Charging does but charge limiting doesn’t without third party apps which I’m not personally willing to run.

Okay which se model 1 or 2?🤨

I keep seeing all these changes with the Apple Watch, then I look down at my watch from 1962 and feel reassured it is better without a date.

I don't like this "machine learning" feature - it does not work for me at all..

Neither on my watch - nor on my MBP..

It charges way too often to 100% - ruining the batteries without any need.

Why can't Apple make a simple slider in preferences (like tesla) - where I can set my charging limit - eg 80% ??

This silly machine learning has no idea how my days look ;)

On the iPhone I use a little app called Battery Charge Alarm. It does not block charging beyond a certain point as you would wish, but does at least sound an alarm and I set this at 80%. I agree the machine learning on battery charging doesn't seem to be that clever right now and just powers towards 100%.

That’s not the same thing. The Ultra also get a mode that limits the charging to 80%, it will not top up to 100% as the optimised charging feature does.

The Ultra also keeps the mode you have, but you can’t toggle that mode on the Ultra, you can only toggle the other mode.

I have an Ultra and so this has been a thing since iOS 16. I don't personally see any evidence is uses "home" or "work" to base charging to 80% on... I'm an airline pilot and I could be in an hotel in the world and it is trying to charge less than full. I often force it to charge to 100% (and incredibly 8 months after I got the Ultra battery health remains at 100%) and I'm torn on the utility of the feature.

The optimized charging algorithm on my Ultra has been remarkably consistent. On Wednesday's, Saturdays, and Sundays when I tend to use more battery intensive apps, it charges to 100%. The rest of the week, it stops at 80-81%. I really like this feature on the Ultra, but I'm not sure I'd want it on any of the other current models. Even knowing that 80% was plenty to make it through to the next morning with charge to spare still took me awhile to get used to.

Optimized charging is supposed to dynamically limit the charge levels based on Apple's algorithms. I didn't have much success with the limits so I went with Al Dente but others have had success with Optimized charging limiting their charge levels.

Too little, too late for my AW7 that's at 86% capacity, which will be probably closer to 80% when Watch OS10 drops. When it was new I could go a week with only charging while in the shower, when it got to +/- 92% I started having to put it on the charger after feeding the dogs breakfast, at 86% I have to take it off as soon as I get up and put it on the charger.

Its all in the grand plan though, planned obsolescence, my sister got an Ultra so I'll probably wait to see if a U2 is coming this fall and then decide between U1 or U2.

I’m planning on keeping my S7 until Apple can switch the chip to a 5nm or 3nm process. AFAIK it is still on the old 7nm and just not very efficient. If they can get enough production capacity out of 3nm and were to finally update the SOC (after a multi-year span of tiny tweaks) that would finally give them a big boost in battery life.

It’s not, optimised charging limits to 80% until it thinks you’re nearly about to use the device.

So for example, it’ll charge up to 80% and then stop till 4am before charging till 100 for you getting up at 6. This isn’t the same thing, this limits it to a different value based on how much battery it thinks you’ll need that day.
