The upcoming watchOS 10 software update for the Apple Watch will feature a new Home Screen layout, according to information shared today by anonymous Twitter account @analyst941. Apple is expected to announce watchOS 10 at WWDC on June 5.

The source claimed the new layout would be easier to navigate and have more iOS-like aspects, including folders for apps. However, they are unsure if the new layout would be enabled by default or available as a secondary option. The source did not share any additional information, but said they will provide more details soon.

In his newsletter last weekend, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said watchOS 10 will be the Apple Watch's biggest software update since 2015. Notably, he said one of the planned enhancements for the Apple Watch is an "updated interface," which would align with a redesigned Home Screen. Apple Watch apps have been organized in a honeycomb grid since the device launched in 2015, with a scrollable list view also available.

The anonymous source behind this rumor leaked accurate information about the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island on the MacRumors Forums before the device was announced last year. However, they do not have a long-term track record with rumors yet, so there is no guarantee the latest information they shared will prove to be accurate.

The home screen is a bit stale. I rarely use it and it's a chore to find anything. The watch is an extension of the phone. Recently though, it's become a smaller phone device. You don't need your phone to be around anymore.

It does need a revamp. Especially with the Ultra! All that glorious screen real estate

it’s funny how simple a change like this is, yet I never thought of it.

not one time have I thought “man, I wonder if they would ever make the apps on this thing similar to iOS!”

this will be a WELCOME change especially on the larger Watches.

Hope one can organise the folders on the iPhone. Imagine the icon wiggles on an Apple Watch trying to organise the apps.

App Library style default organisation is a no-go.

This seems nice. I think much more useful would be the ability to swipe to get between different apps vs needing to press a button (ie for recent apps or favorites). I hate needing to press that button to do so many things. A press and hold on the watch face is all you should need for switching between different watch faces.

Bottom: Control Center
Left: Full screen implementation of 2x2 ios widgets with interactive elements (not needing any porting from devs)
Right: App Library organised as scrolling 3x3 grid.
Long press: change watchface

UI is stale and apart from some live pics has barely moved beyond the early watch iOS editions. I use series 2 and struggle to fully justify purchasing a new watch. However, I am still waiting for an extended apple watch version that is not based on the notion that it has to be square with rounded edges. One arm offers so much more retail space raising a possibility of a watch with a screen of the same height as now but wider. It can go as wide as 3 and even 4 inches. There is little movement of the arm between the wrist and elbow and it should be explored. I am certain that scifi movies/fiction explored this possibility although I wouldn't know since I am not into them.
