I posted a thread about my issue earlier and didn't get many responses so I went ahead and returned my watch for a new one. My first watch I immediately installed OS 2 before I even used it. It worked great through out the day until I asked siri to call my wife. Siri said "Sharon cannot be found in contacts" WTH!! I then told Siri to call Peter....same result. I told Siri to text Sharon.....same result. I called Apple support and we couldn't figure out the issue after spending 1.5 hours on the phone. I posted a thread yesterday and one person said theirs works fine. So I went to the Apple store and swapped it out for a new one.

My new watch I tested before updating the software to OS 2. It worked great! Siri was able to call and text my contacts no problem. So I thought maybe I just had a lemon watch. Last night before going to sleep I initiated the update process for OS 2. I woke up this morning and tested Siri......I am back to square one. Siri now cannot find my contacts and I can't call or text using Siri. I am very disappointed to say the least because Siri is a very convenient feature for the watch.

I've chalked this up to be a software bug since it happened on two brand new watches on OS 2. I am using the new iPhone 6s+ updated with the latest software as well. Siri on my phone works fine. With my first watch I tried every possible solution with Apple support with no success. In the end the specialist said they will send a direct report of this to Apple engineers.

What do you guys think I should do? Should I wait for another software release to see if it is fixed? If I wait the software update probably won't come before the end of my 14 day return period. Should I return it and get another one that's still on the older software? For me Siri is a must have feature for the watch to make texts messages and phone calls.

    Hey Irock,

Have you added them to your friend list? Also, are you paired to something? Or are you tryingn to make the call ( and speak ) from the phone itself. Something similar happened to me in this regard, however, i managed to get it fixed, i just don't know what i did, because i tried so many things!

    Hey,

Yes the contacts I tried to call are on my friends list. I am trying to call using the watch "hey siri...call Sharon". Siri then says "Sharon cannot be found in contacts". Sharon is my wife and is in my contacts and watch friends list. The support agent said it doesn't matter if the contact is in your "friends" list or not. The friends list is more for quick access to certain contacts or friends who also have an apple watch. Again....everything worked fine before I updated to OS 2.

This certainly isn't a watch OS2 issue, in fact, i just tried to call my mom, and i have a few in my phone, and the watch basically says " which mom ". I would do what apple forced me to do. Reset the watch, re pair, then test before restoring. If you then restore, it will break, something happened to me with my apple music, and music syncing, apple could not fix it period. So, i'd suggest you reset watch, test this feature before restoring a backup if it works, just manually put back together again, most of the apps can be installed super easily.

When you say reset the watch do you mean a "hard reset" or reset back to factory settings and setup as new? I did this several times with my first watch.

Oops, i think that's my fault for not clarifying. When you hard re-set the watch, it should immediately come back to you with watch OS1 , so you've done this, and the second you upgrade to watch OS2, siri can't call anyone any more? That's just simply not a bug of watch OS2, no reports as far as I can see, and I know it works on mine, and my wifes ( i just tested ), even without the person in my friends list.

Try Un Pairing the phone from the watch ( it's a pain ), then re pair. No, I don't mean with bluetooth. Keep in mind, siri uses the phone, not the watch to complete the task, the watch is just acting as the bluetooth device for the phone. Are those people you're contacting in the phone too? ( silly question, but had to ask ).

Additionally, i'd try to unpair, then re-pair the watch before a hard reset, and i'd confirm that siri CAN call your wife on the phone, even if you think you know, i'd test it, see if she actually dials it !

I'm sorry but I am confused with what you are suggesting. A "hard reset" is pressing the crown and side button together until the screen goes black and the apple symbol shows. That is a hard reset and this does NOT revert the software to OS 1. It is impossible to downgrade Apple software once you already update.

The other reset option is to delete all settings and info from the watch back to factory settings and un-pair. This option still does NOT downgrade the software. I appreciate you trying to help, I am just having trouble following your suggestions.

The contacts I am trying to call are both in my phone and watch. For some reason Siri is not recognizing them.

    It is set to mirror.

Hmmm I think your right , I'm not sure what made me think it downgrades. I'm wrong in that front, my apologies. However , a fresh reset to factory settings won't give you the results you are getting. :/ I'll bow out as clearly I'm just confusing tou more than helping, sorry !

Unpairing and reset to factory settings is not helping my issue. I did this 100 times already by myself and over the phone with Apple support. A hard reset of the watch and phone does not help either. Everything worked fine until I updated to OS2.

I appreciate the help. I'm just tired of trying every possible solution 100 times. So far nobody has come up with a possible solution that I haven't tried. I even drove to the Apple store and got a different watch! Still same result. Its either something wrong with my settings or a OS2 bug.

By the way I can manually call and text from the watch just fine. It just doesn't work with Siri. All my contacts are visible in the watch.

I don't think that there's a hardware issue with your watch, since you've had the problem with two watches. Here's what I would try next:

If calling an existing contact using Siri works on your iPhone but not on your watch, add a new contact to your contact list. Make sure that the first and last names don't resemble any of your existing contacts. After you've confirmed that the contact has been transferred to your watch, ask Siri to call that contact using both the first and last name. If that works, you may have to rebuild your contact list.

It's also possible that there is a hardware or software issue with your iPhone that affects the contact data that is transferred to your watch. If the above doesn't work, can you try pairing your watch with another iPhone?

    If you haven't already tried I would;

Unpair the Watch from the iPhone. Close all apps on the iPhone, do a hard reset on the iPhone then repair the Watch with your iPhone setting it up as new.

Ok we are making progress! I paired it to my wife's iPhone 6s+ and the watch works fine. Apparently it is something wrong with my phone. I also noticed that when pairing to my wife's phone the setup process was a bit different. What should I do from here? I really appreciate your guys help!

Hi there @Irock619, I have exactly the same problem. When you say that you deleted all nicknames from your contacts, do you mean literally all contacts? Not just your wife's contact info?

    Here's what I did....

    - Unpair the watch from phone
    - Go into contacts on phone and delete all nicknames for all contacts. I also set the sort and display order to "First, Last"
    - Double check all contact names are in right place, i.e. first and last name in correct designated spot
    - Pair the watch to iPhone
    - Set contacts in apple watch app to mirror iPhone.

This should help you. I haven't tried adding the nicknames back into contacts. I may just do without.
