I still think it’s asinine that watch faces can’t be designed either through submission and review of a “watch face store” or with some sort of end user tool.
I have a theory on why Apple doesn't allow it.

See the watch face is what is on your watch nearly all the time, for Apple Watch users who have and turn on the always on display, it's literally all the time. That means that the watch face is actually part of how the Apple Watch looks. And that's very important to Apple as we all know.

I think they don't trust many developers to make "non-ugly" ones.

I do wonder if we’re going to see circular watch faces next year.

These new faces seem more than fine but not a wow.

I imagine that so many people ha e the watch now - and these watches are great for half a decade - that a way to boost sales will be to come up with a brand new form factor (new for the watch that is).

I don’t have a problem with them not opening it up but I’m surprised they don’t create more.

Even this. New update. 4 new faces. Wait it’s actually 2 as I haven’t got a Hermes or an ultra.

I’m also suprised they haven’t created more branded ones like the Toy Story and snoopy ones. I figure film and show producers would happy make and probably even pay to have them on the watches as advertising.

Is storage an issue ? I notice they seem to take some faces off when they add new these days.

Why can't 3rd parties make their own Apple Watch faces yet?

This is such a huge missed opportunity.

It's incredible to see what folks come up with at garmin.watchfacebuilder.com and the like.
This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to move away from Apple products. This should have been a feature from day one. A round watch option as well. SSDD with Apple. Safari on Mac, is another horrible failure, with almost zero extension support and any kind of customization either. They finally brought a weird form of profiles but I have long since given up on it.

When my Ultra 1 finally dies, I am getting a Garmin Fenix.

While I am eager to try out the new watch faces, it is disappointing that some old ones are being removed. Will miss the gradient watch face!

That’s nice. Could they just bring back the Explorer watch face, originally introduced on the Series 3 Cellular, instead?
Thanks.

I have an Ultra 2. Updated both my phone and watch yesterday, but I don't see any of these new faces in the gallery.

Edit: I had to force quit the watch app. Now they are showing up!

Honestly so disgusted over 90% of the watch faces. It’s a DIGITAL watch and we need to stop pretending it’s not. We need more useful digital watch faces, or just offer a digital/analog variant for each one. The only face that is appealing to me is Modular: Complications and digital time.
But it’s so old and boring that I don’t even use it anymore. I’ve been using Flux which is fun but there are no complications so I’m missing out on lots of the appeal of a smart watch and at a glance stuff.
If you add an analog face and add digital time as a complication, the hands end up covering up the time complication, and frankly, other data as well at points throughout the day. It’s infuriating.
If we could turn off the watch hands altogether when using digital time, that would be a great compromise. Better yet, with this big push to liquid glass, make the hands liquid glass or something so you could see through them at least. That would at least offer up some more choices in watch faces in the meantime.
