I put my watch back on, for the weekend, and the issue is still there.
At this rate, I will have to pause wearing my watch again.

Another thing I tried was, when a notification would come through, I would simply not raise my wrist to check the watch. Seems silly, but, I intend on only raising my wrist if no colleague is near me at the time. Some individuals are NOSEY. Just saying...
yeah i think we all are still waiting on this issue to be fixed. it’s so annoying.

Just spent an hour trying to sort this with a series 11 I just bought my wife. Same issue, messages always shows part of the message in the notification even if the tap to show notification option is set. Seems it’s a messages thing as other app notifications work as intended with this option set. Glad to have found this thread

Message notifications on WatchOS 26 now show the contact photo and a preview/summary of the message beneath the contact image on wrist raise following a haptic tap. If the message is brief enough, the entire message appears.

This was not the case in prior versions of WatchOS. In the past, the message notifications could be set to only show the contact image on wrist raise and only after a tap on the contact image would the full message be displayed. I liked being able to see who sent a message while hiding the content until I was ready to view it.
what!? I actually want this back!!!! it was perfect. watchos26.1 seems they've gotten rid of this "bug" or feature and I hate it. When I have tap to view turned off, it opens the entire imessage thread whenever i get an imessage notification and its ridiculous! coupled with the new "wrist flick" gesture on series 10, it was a perfect way to quickly view a notification and flick my wrist to dismiss the notification off the screen whilst working.

This morning I unpaired my AWU2, and reconnected it.
With that, I still have the original issue AND now when I raise my wrist to see who the notification is from, it opens the message.

Priceless...! 🤬
This! I want the original issue back however currently now that its been corrected, without tap to view turned on I am experiencing the whole, opening into message thread when raising my wrist to check the notification. Hence why I have tap to view turned on, but the brief message preview with the prior "bug" was actually perfect for me! -.- ugh.
