Anyone else agree? I can't seem to figure out why, but I feel like it would be so much better if the dock scrolled vertically instead of horizontally. Maybe something similar to when scrolling through messages in the Messages app. Like, the center icon is full screen, but it sort of has a rotation/carousel effect to where it simulates rotation. Thoughts?

I disagree. I think going horizontally is more natural. I also feel that the widgets page should go horizontally as well but that won't happen because Apple wouldn't want users to have to swipe a bunch of times to the left.

The widgets page makes sense to be only one swipe away from the Apps home screen. I just think it would flow better as a horizontal setup.

Vertical would require longer swipes to get to the next app because they are much taller then they are wide. Horizontal is quicker. You can also use the Digital Crown to scroll through them.

The Digital Crown "scrolls" up and down, so I think it would be more natural to scroll through Dock apps the same direction.

But, apps on iOS devices (and on Macs, now that I think about it) are side-by-side, so we're more accustomed to seeing open apps placed side-by-side.

Kind of a toss-up. I don't have watchOS 3 installed; in which direction does the crown scroll through apps now?

I think they thought long and hard about this. At first, I thought the same thing. The dock should scroll in the direction of the Digital Crown but then, looking at how the UI is organized, up and down swipes would accidentally trigger notifications or control centre very often.

Also, Apple stated that one of the goals in Watch 3.0 is to make it feel familiar to those on iOS and macOS. The dock and the app switcher all have apps arranged side by side.
