i used to delete emails as soon as I was notified on the Watch, like if it was spam or something. With the new OS, it seems from the email notifications, all you can do is dismiss. Did Apple change how deleting from notifications works, or did they remove that functionality all together?

Unfortunately, the way you delete an email from a notification has not changed with watchOS 4. You can still delete an email from the notification, but you must scroll all the way down to the very bottom of the email to get to the “Trash” button. Often I get very long emails and scrolling to the bottom like that is very tedious and I wish there was an easier way to delete emails from the notification. This is the way it’s been since near the beginning (at the very beginning you were not able to delete emails from the notification, but that changed with WatchOS2, I believe)

However, I will say that I got a S3 watch today and it is much faster than my S2 (and before that, S0) watch. This means that when I get an email notification and tap on it to open the email app it literally just takes a second to come up. Once the email is open in the app you can force press on it and then hit “trash” without having to scroll down. It took too long on the S2 (and especially the S0) watche to open the email app from the notification for this to really be useful, but on the S3 it’s not too cumbersome and Is much easier than scrolling to the bottom of a very long email.

I'm having the same issue. But I don't know whats the problem there. I upgraded my iPhone to 11.0 and my Watch 2 to watchOS 4 on the 12th of september. I could use this feature (scrolling to the end of the mail to find three possibilites Dismiss, Unread, Delete) until today. Today I received my iPhone 8, unpaired my watch from my old phone and paired it with the new one. Since then, there is only the option to dismiss. I just tried to open the mail by tipping on the notification, but when I try to force touch on it, nothing happens. I would be very happy, if someone has any information about this topic...

It’s a bug that’s been around since watchOS 1.0.

If you notice, the notification mail icon is round if it’s working correctly, but square if it’s a generic notification (no ability to delete, mark as unread, etc.).

Generally, a restart of phone and watch fixes it. Opening the email app on the unlocked phone then opening the email app on the watch may help.

What seems to happen is that the watch loses connection to the system email app (the watch’s email list won’t be up to date) but the generic notifications come in.

Look for the rounds versus square email icon in the notification. That’ll tell you if you’re experiencing this issue.

TIL.. I always wondered why sometimes the notification icon for mail showed up square.

Restarting Watch and phone didn‘t help. I unpaired the Watch, paired it again and configured the Watch ‚as new‘, without using the backup. Now the Watch shows my mails again and I have the options in notification again. So it‘s fixed for me. Hopefully it‘ll stay this way. Thx guys.
