Nice new features but still lacks sleep tracking. Maybe they will add it with the next Watch. The noise level warnings I don’t really understand the use for. If it’s loud your ears feel it. Can you tell people to calm down if your Watch is warning you about loud noises? It doesn’t work today at a daycare center or a loud work environment.

How much battery will the complication use if it checks noise level all the time? More than an always on display?

Anyone surprised that the series 1 and 2 got support? My series 1 is slow as all get out, so I assumed it was the end of the road. it is a pleasant surprise to find out otherwise. Hope it runs ok!!

Me. Using a series 2, which still does a great job thanks to watchOS 5. I think I will still upgrade this year, as battery life is getting worse, and I have had my watch shut off by itself twice already.

But still, anything can change this September.

Fact based on this release, or assumption based on others?

With any release you can't downgrade unless you send it to Apple or have the right tools, which I looked into and was not worth the money for a one time downgrade.

I've read people saying that they've took their Watch into a store for a downgrade but the only option I was given when I asked in store for my Series 3 to be done was to send it to Apple for downgrading. I then received after a week a replacement Watch. Not sure why they didn't downgrade it but I got a shiny new one back and not my scratched up one.

I know with the current process you can't downgrade. There's no recovery mode on the watch and we mortals can't connect cables to it. I just wondered if it may be different with watchOS 6 as they touted watch updates are now OTA without needing the phone.

I totally agree, Don't find any use of it.

She only listens when you raise your watch.

--------------

For the people who are running it: anything new for the Siri watchface?
Yeah I realized this will most likely listen like Siri does today when you raise your wrist or periodically for a short time. No big battery issue.

I still hope for UV exposure and sleep tracking on the next Watch. Loud noises I can understand already that they might be bad formmy hearing. UV exposure I find out about to late. As in when Im red as hell and already burned up. Would be so nice with a ding on my arm and a notification “You will burn in 20 minutes, get in the shade and add some sunscreen!”

Noise you find about too late as well. Before it starts to hurt your ears, it already damages your hearing.

Wonder how the sound level tracking will work if I am aware its loud (mowing or working in the shop) and wearing hearing protection. I have OS6 but have not tested yet. Will it always assume I have nothing protecting my ears.

What’s the music app like? Same as before or can you scroll through the tracks of a playlist like you used to be able to do pre os4

How is the watch supposed to know if you're wearing hearing protection or not? They're using the mic on the watch, not sticking something inside your ear.
[doublepost=1559658155][/doublepost]After watching the keynote again last night I took a closer look at the word cloud slide at the very end of the watchOS section, and there's a TON of stuff there that wasn't talked about. I thought it might be helpful to list them out real quick. Not sure about everyone else, but there's a few items in this list that are "Finally" worthy to me.

  • Accessibility settings on watch
  • Chance of rain complication
  • Smart guidance in Maps
  • Shuffle workout playlist
  • Current elevation metric in workouts
  • Use Stopwatch app during workouts
  • Monochrome watch face style
  • Apple Podcasts stations
  • Spoken navigation in Maps
  • Shared lists in Reminders
  • Wind complication
  • Dynamic smart replies
  • Shazam with Siri
  • Account login on watch
  • Reorder faces on watch
  • Cellular connectivity complication
  • Redesigned Walkie-Talkie
  • Workout summary on watch
  • Tap to speak time
  • For You in Apple Music
  • Mute Mail threads
  • Automatic software updates
  • Now Playing app
  • Siri support for Find Friends
  • Relevant shortcuts for Siri watch face
  • Siri web search results
  • Dynamic media controls in Now Playing

Exactly my point. How is the watch going to use this feature if I already know its loud and wearing hearing protection. It would assume I am not and so record the event as such. Trying to see how this feature would work in this case.

Perhaps it will be a situation where a pop-up will be presented when the dB's get too loud and you'd be able to note that you have proper hearing protection. IDK.

Interesting. I was curious as to whether or not there were any new workout features. Looks like a few.

My take on the keynote was that you can download apps OTA. Upgrading the OS is a lot more complex and higher jeopardy than that.

Or is there somewhere else they are saying the OS updates are also direct with watchOS 6?

On the watch itself you can go to Settings, then General and there is a new “Software Update” option. All it does now is say “Checking for update” for a few seconds, then it says “Apple Watch is up to date” but presumably you will be able to update the OS directly on the watch.

I don't understand why you can't just ignore the alert in that instance.

Like I said in my previous quote, the word cloud slide at the end of the watchOS section included "Automatic software updates". Don't know if that applies to just apps, or watchOS itself.
