probably as long as it's fast enough to support updates, I would imagine. series 3 was a big improvement over earlier watches. Technology rolls on

That doesn't sound right, sounds like Dexcom needs to hire a few programmers. I use cardiogram to monitor heart 24/7, it updates a whole lot more than 288 times a day

It's been an issue for a few years. I've not seen a 3rd party app get around it if it needs to frequently update.

If there is SpO2 monitoring, it will be introduced with the Apple Watch 6, not at WWDC
I think you've missed my point. Yes I know it will be an AW6-only feature as I've said, but my point was that it shouldn't be as the hardware is already within existing series.

I'm curious... So one massive benefit I have from using an Apple Watch unfortunately needs to take advantage of a loophole. Watch Apps cannot update complications on screen automatically more than a few times a day. I wear a Dexcom to monitor interstitial sugar, with reading sent to the app every five minutes. Dexcom has a complication for apple watch, but impossible for it to update 288 times a day... so you're often opening the app on the watch, which is just a time waster.

So, I have another app that takes the Dexcom readings, publishes them to an iCloud calendar every five minutes, then I have the calendar complication always show on my watch to get around this restriction. The downside is that at some point, the calendar will refuse to update on the phone after about the 24 hour mark, requiring a phone reboot once a day.

I kind of get why Apple has the restriction... to preserve battery life as much as possible, but for me, its an override I really wish I could have for an app of my choosing.

that’s a great hack! impressed

Checks family Apple Watch inventory....

Wife's Watch Series 0 replaced with Series 5 last Christmas
Daughter's (non-functional) Apple Watch Series 1 replaced for a Series 3 for birthday/good grades

I'm wearing....a Series 2. Oh dear.
Seems like a reason to hold off until Series 6 most likely in the fall. Unless you're a developer and want to test now. Wife and I have series 4 models and will likely replace in the spring. Usually buy at best buy when they have them on sale in the March/April time frame.

The benefit of using the calendar is two fold... When in your car, that data can always be visible on the multi-app display typically showing map, music and calendar in CarPlay. That way I've got at least a larger screen in the car to see that data easily. Might not be a big need for many, but the few of us that rely on it... very helpful.

I don’t think the pawn would even buy this watch. Maybe I’ll give it the “Office Space” treatment.

If you use your Apple Watch all day as most people do, can someone explain to me how you're going to do sleep tracking? When do you charge the battery?

I thought the same

I track my sleep every night. Watch takes 75 minutes roughly for full charge. Lasts 24h easily after the charge including 160mins of workout tracking daily. Find an hour to charge it anywhere in the day and you are fine. For me that is usually in the morning immediately after my workout when I sit down to begin my work day.

This is with an AW5 with all default features on including the AOD

160 minutes a day? That’s impressive, nice work. Has anyone with the beta seen if we can increase the daily exercise goal finally?

Really? According to Apple itself, the Series 5 Apple Watch takes 2.5 hours for a full charge, or 1.5 hours for an 80% charge.

That's a great question. I'm glad you asked.

I charge my zero while I'm wearing my Watch 4.

But on a trip I only wear one watch and a short 30-45m charge is enough to top it off in the morning, or while I'm showering, etc. Even a full day only runs the battery down to 40%, so it doesn't take much to get it back to full.

The 1.5hours to 80% is from 0%. Who runs it down that far? I know my 4 charges from 80-100% faster than 1 hour.

Sleep tracking doesn’t drain my battery at all, maybe 5-8%. The only thing that really drains my watch is exercise, so I just pop it on the charger while I shower and that’s good enough.

Series 1/2 under watchOS6 should still be supported under iOS14, though not sure why anyone would put themselves through that type of punishment. Those watches were always slow in comparison to Series 3 and above.
My Series 2 has slowed down a lot over the past year... it doesn’t have much space left and I don’t install anything on it.
