Apple just released the public beta for ios 14 and ipados 14. There is a public beta also for watchos 7?

Just a reminder to everyone. watchOS can’t be downgraded if something goes wrong or not working as expected. We see this every year with multiple posts here where people upgraded and then got stuck.

watchOS is getting a public beta for the first time this year. It's still listed as "coming soon" on Apple's beta website. So they might be waiting for beta 3.

I think the watch beta will be very popular for people to try.
I’m certainly trying it. I never felt comfortable putting the dev beta on my watch, but if Apple feels the general public can use it if they want to then I’ll trust them.

That is surprising. Apple is going to make a lot of people upset with the watch beta.
Aren’t you able to send it to Apple for them to downgrade though? I know it’s not ideal and can be inconvenient, but it’s not like you’ll have a bricked watch forever.

You can.

The problem is there will be a lot of people installing beta on the watch that really have no business doing so. These are the leap before you think type people. The people that don’t know how to make back ups, much less encrypted ones. And these same people who have trouble restoring their phone will expect to be able restore the watch. Once they find out they have to send their watch to Apple I doubt many will be happy about that.

I think this is a bad move on Apple’s part.

To be fair there isn't a lot of new features that are amazing in watchOS 7. The sleep tracking is nice, but if you're using another sleep tracker already it's most likely better.

The notification to the phone when the watch is fully charged is nice, as well as the new battery options (battery health, optimized charging, etc.).
Overall the watchOS interface is snappier and that's very nice.

I'm not surprised, as there's no way to hook up to a Mac to downgrade it.

Well, that was only for pain developers. There's nothing to say if they will support that for those on public beta.

That's why I've held off. Haven't really seen a "wow that's cool" feature that made me want to do it outside of being on the latest. If something goes wrong with my phone at least I can revert back but then my watch wouldn't work so that could be an issue.

How prominent is the haptic sleep alarm? Is it strong enough that you won’t sleep through, when relying solely on the haptic function with no audible alarm from the phone?

I don’t use the native sleep tracking. I’m still using AutoSleep.
With the limited functions and results of Apple’s new feature, I can see why you are still using AutoSleep. Maybe I will like the new feature once I start using it. However, from what I have read and seen in videos thus far, the new feature Is rather mundane.

How was the speed and stability?
I had a few re-resprings after installing but nothing major thus far. I would have considered installing on my series 5 if “Watch Feeds” (RSS app for the watch where you can set notifications as well for certain feeds you want like MR) and “Phone Buddy” had worked like they were supposed to. “Watch Feeds” menu is largely built upon 3D press some of the menus would recognize or load like they should with one of my readers. I may try the app with a different reader tomorrow. My other apps appear to be working. I mainly installed the beta to see first hand what the sleep app was like.

I plan on doing some more experimenting with the series 3 tomorrow. If I can convince myself I can do without those two apps for a few months, I may roll the dice with the series 5 with the public beta release which I think will be in 2 weeks.
