My release day series 6 just hit 79% battery health. Dropped it off at Apple Store for battery replacement today.

Interesting to see how this works out. I feel like my S6 Watch has maybe been the only Apple product I've owned where the battery went to crap so fast (ok ok iPhone X lol) I had assumed it was because I had always on display turned on for the first couple-few months and it ravaged the battery. My battery was draining so fast, and I turned it off and checked my battery health and it was already in the 80s. I gave my old launch day S4 to my dad, and last I looked it has better battery health than my launch day S6.

I probably have my eye on a 2024 watch as thats the rumored big updates. So if this update doesn't make me feel better about my battery lasting long enough to make it until then...and it probably won't...I'll get a used S7/8 to hold me over. Probably at S9 launch as they'll be much cheaper. Probably an 8 if I wait until then.
Yeah, my old S4 battery was amazing after two straight years of daily use. A bit like some of my early iPods. They had batteries that just went on and on and on…….

My launch day 44mm 6’s battery health hung at 81-82% for month before my 2 year warranty ran out (even though it was needing to be recharged more and more frequently) and about a month after warranty ran out, it was around 77% (the batteries in my series 0 and 3 degraded much more slowly.)

Two other family members and a colleague with the same watch had better battery health, low 80’s, at the same time mine was in the mid 70’s.)

So I complained to Apple and they sent me a replacement.
same

my 6 series was stuck at 82% for over a year. that did not make any sense. i talked with apple and they said nothing was wrong and it was working fine. so there was no way to get it replaced under warranty.

Wow, reading yours and others’ accounts in this thread I can’t help but feeling some guilt—as well as relief—about being miffed with my late-November-2020 41mm cellular Series 6 at 86% (a recent 2% drop from a longtime-reigning 88%). Not using cellular or the always-on display for much of those two-plus years has helped I’m sure.

I just hope this watch can make it till the next true, new chip (not a repackaged S6, sorry Tim) rolls along—it’s the only Apple of mine (semi-)ripe for replacement and the only one without AppleCare. Otherwise, aside from quite a lot of heavy scratching on the glass screen (aluminum model) and the apparent 15% or so battery degradation she’s chugging right along.

I'm wondering why our Series 3 and 4 report much better battery health compared to our Series 5.

A good 10% less on the 5s ;(

After same charging pattern and use.
Did the 5 batteries get hammered with better processors making more demands of them? Always on suck the juice away?

Glad that Apple is no longer on the thin is better approach and that battery life matters on devices.

But will have to make the hard choice of replace battery in next few months or buy a new model.
I know what Apple will want - but they win either way.

My Series 6 bought in November 2020 is at 86%. To be honest, today is the first time I ever checked the battery health. I use the watch as my daily but don't wear it to sleep. I also use it to record workouts but that's about it. Still very happy with it as neither Series 7 or 8 have brought any new features that interest me. I do love the current design though and hope it sticks around for a bit.

My launch day S6 is at 80% battery health… waiting for it to hit 79% so I can get a replacement under AppleCare+.
I wonder which direction the recalibration will change battery health %
when apple recalibrated my S5 last year, my battery health jumped from 82% to 85%. If you want a replacement, I suggest avoiding this upgrade.

Good to still see a focus on the older models.
Cynic says they are focused on older devices to get you to upgrade ;)

I bought a 3 as a toy to see if they were useful.
I bought a 5 as they become essential.

Now need to decide when the next upgrade happens...

Side note, was in OfficeWorks today and both their display watches (on charge all day) show Battery Health is 100% months after being put there. Faked by software for display models?

My iPhone 6S Plus was stuck on 82% for over 3 years! It felt more like about 65% when i gave it away a few months ago.

My (launch day?) series 6 Watch is at 88%. About right for my light usage. It will be interesting to see if this changes with this update.

Got a 6 44m in Jan. 2021, use it every day and typically close all rings - never came close to needing a recharge before charging at bed. Health shows 81%, will be interesting to see what happens after 9.4. Would never consider a battery replacement.

LOL

Hows the battery life on your 5 currently?

If you are getting through the day/night without running into charging issues I'd wait to see what the next release is.

Which watches are on display at OfficeWorks? My watch is only a few months old so its obviously showing 100% but I know my phone showed 100% for about 15 months before that started dropping. My iPhone 11 which is about 3 1/2 years old is showing 85% for its max capacity. I think that's pretty good.

I have the Ultra and I am slightly concerned about its battery longevity since I'd like to have it for 3-4 years. I only charge it to 80% or low 80s and start charging it before it goes below 25%. Not sure how much of a difference it will make long term though. Currently I charge it for about 25 minutes every 36 hours.

Day 1 S6 44mm here, at 85%. Daily use, daily charging (mostly), and lots of workouts and outdoor running (GPS/music use).

Impressive that so many of our devices are within such a tight range after 2+ years. I can't imagine that our use cases and charging habits are that closely aligned, but maybe that's less important to the battery health.

I might be misunderstaning what this recalibration does, but I don't see how this benefits owners of the S6. Recalibrating won't provide more battery life between charges. It will just change the number on the capacity percentage even though the battery chemistry remains the same. My launch S6 has been at 82% for months. I was hoping it would dip below 80 so I could get a replacement, but I'm sure the recalibration will delay that. Maybe Apple will recalibrate it to 100% so I feel like it's a new watch.

My day one series 6 is at 86%. Looking forward to see what it is after the calibration.

Wondering what other day one owners percentages are.
My day one series 6 44mm (exactly the one from this article) has been stubbornly stuck at 81% for a few months. I have actually been looking forward to it dipping down a notch so I can get the battery replaced via AppleCare…

Loving my 6 , so discreet unlike that monolithic ultra lump
It feels smaller than it might look. I originally bought the 45mm series 8 online. When to the Apple store a week later and tried the Ultra and immediately gave them back my series 8. I think my wrist is on the smaller size too. I wear it at night to track sleep too and never had an issue.

I will say the series 8 felt non existent on my wrist and its an excellent watch.

That's good to hear. I heard Apple is good about things that happen shortly after the warranty expires especially if you paid for the extended one.

It makes sense since they don't offer long warranty.
