Really looking forward to seeing how Vitals and training load work.

- Do all activities in Health count towards load or only only ones logged via the fitness app?
- What metrics are tracked in Vitals and used as part of the analysis
- What sort of "roll-up" metrics do they have that come out of the individual pieces (RHR, skin temp, HRV, etc)

Definitely planning on installing on a non-main use watch to check it out.

This looks like a big improvement, but I've a question. Is there going to be any improvement to how Apple calculates VO2 max? There's really no consideration there other than running and hiking. Astonishingly, when they incorporated data from bike power meters last year, all they did was present it on screen; it doesn't factor into the VO2 calculation. Consequently, because I don't run, and don't get much of a chance to hike, my VO2 max from Garmin (based on cycling workouts on the Garmin Edge, with occasional interventions from a Vivoactive 3 which have done little but confirm what I'm seeing on the Edge) is 43 and has risen three points this spring; my VO2 max from the Apple Watch Ultra is 19.6 and has been stuck there since before major surgery I had 15 months ago.

This might be the feature announced today that most meaningfully impacts my day-to-day life. It will all depend on how it's implemented, of course, and it would be great if the challenges tied into this data to give structured, sane training challenges.

Will features similar to these in Garmin be available:

- Training Readiness
- Body Battery
- Stress
They already are in a multitude of 3rd party apps (just in case you don't yet know that).

But I
Vitals are in Health, while Training Load is in Fitness. You have to enable Training Load as well.
According to DCRainmaker's post today on WatchOS11, you should be able to get vitals in the fitness app as part of the new tiles thing.

I was surprised my outdoor biking didn't give a VO2 metric also.

I just got my VO2 into the above average and then I started biking more and running less. Then I hurt my back and was going to start biking soon but definitely not running.

I'm guessing my VO2 will drop a few points back into the below average.

I use Athlytic in addition to the Fitness app, and my VO2max is considerably higher for HIIT, running, and cycling versus walking - it would be nice to get a better calculation using more inputs.

It's not a tile currently, but it's visible in Training Load in Fitness (it wasn't present in the image in my previous post)

Is it just me, but I thought the the training load, effort would fill in automatically after your workout.

I must add effort manually each time after the workout. Or do we have to wait 14 days before it does it automatically?IMG_5506.png

Interesting. Together with the new Vitals app this could replace Athlytic.

I don’t think so. Apple still needs to make daily goals more dynamic, based on recovery and load. Having a guided strain/exertion target that factors in recovery is still a big advantage of Athlytic, Gentler Streak, and Bevel. This is a positive step for Apple, but they continue to silo data and not contextualize it much. Maybe I’ll feel differently when I’ve had a chance to use watchOS 11.

Definitely Apple is behind on this. I use Athlytic, Gentler and Training today. Although Training today isn’t as good as Bevel or Gentler I use it to compare some stats.

It's a very apple approach to eventually make those obsolete, IMO. Apple often introduces basic features that will garner wide adoption and not require end-user input or understanding too much to get it.

For things like training load... Training Peaks gives me super deep data on that, but if I tried to explain it to someone coming from not tracking load at all, it would be a real effort.

With Apple's approach, more people will be considering training load than there were before... and I'd wager over a multi-year period apple will complicate the metrics and hand hold the majority of end users from never thinking about it (ie. pre WatchOS 11) to having interest and a perspective on it.

In the meantime, I will still use TP and Bezel for those types of metrics.

I can see the vitals within the health app? Also, the explanation given says that it only tracks them overnight. I can see how this is annoying however I think maybe it's when the watch is probably naturally using less energy and so it can run those checks in the background. Maybe it'll be updated as it progresses or added for all day checking on perhaps the Ultra where battery life might not be impacted as much.

Opening the Activity app and into Training load, I see blank. It seems to only work using the workouts app workouts. I use Echelon fit with their equipment so all that goes into health and I get to track and connect to my equipment via Bluetooth. But Training load doesn’t seem rouse any of that data. So unless this updates to view any of your actual activity, it seems to closed off.

The watch knows my exercise via the rings and my heart rate etc. it should be able to get that data even though. It all was recorded on another app. Health app has it all. So Apple needs to update this.

The Apple workouts are too limited so eh.
