Yes, it's only water under the surface, and maybe a few extremophiles.

I love the photos captioned "white-light adjusted" by JPL. In other words- that's what Mars really looks like.

Thanks for posting these links - this is absolutely fascinating stuff. Actually, I have been following Curiosity's mission with great interest, ever since it blasted off from Earth.

so if we bring a nuclear reactor to mars we can make large amounts of oxygen and hydrogen to sustain a mission and have fuel for cars, planes and the trip back.
