I was going to do it, but it says 10.5 and 10.6, and I have lion....will it still work?

In the US, it is legal. It's legal to have one digital "backup" of your dvds. You are just not allowed to share, resell, or have more then one copy. And when you get rid of the physical media, you must delete the digital "backup". That part about ripping dvd's that is illegal is developing the software that decrypts them. Handbreak used to decrypted them, but it now uses VLC's decrypting abilities. That's why it requires that you have VLC.
