I just got an update for my car to use CarPlay. So far so good but when I launch Waze, I only get a black screen. Is this a known issue? Any idea how to fix it?
I think it's a Waze issue. If I select it from the car play menu I have to restart the Waze app on my phone to get it working in CarPlay on my truck screen.

I'd agree that it's a Waze issue ... I've seen this quite a bit recently ... but I am running the Waze beta, so that could also be an issue ...
FWIW, I've always connected my phone via cable before I start my car... and I've noticed that IF I start my car and THEN connect my phone, the black screen issues are significantly less.
