Running GM iOS 12 on iPhone X into my car. CarPlay booted right up, but Waze was not an option.

I read that iOS 12 would bring Waze compatibility to CarPlay.

Any thoughts? I need my Waze!

It will be in the public release.

Has Waze announced their application is ready to? Apple does their part, Waze still have to do theirs.

I haven’t heard waze announce anything yet. My explorer with Sync 3 has a Waze App through FordSync, but I have to disable Apple Carplay to use it. I’m assuming the Apple CarPlay app should be similar to the Sync 3 app and shouldn’t be a real issue to push out.

If Waze hasn’t built an app version with the CarPlay framekit then it won’t function yet. The app publishes differently through API for Sync and aftermarket head unit connectors. We have to wait until Waze publishes their CarPlay framekit enabled version.

Incorrect. GM is now out, App Store can now accept apps using iOS 12 SDK.

Waze must update their app and include CP compatibility now.
Thanks, I didn’t realize it was out already, hopefully Waze updates soon so it’s on CarPlay.

I’m running on a Waze beta through their beta program. And they haven’t released any CarPlay compatible version yet.
And next beta is also just fixes.
But hope it will come soon :D

I know this is off topic but what about Google Maps?

What about it? It's the same for GM as it is for Waze, or any other third party map application. CarPlay compatibility will be available in the public release of iOS12, on Monday. Following that all third party apps need to update to utilise CarPlay. And those updates can't be released until Monday at the earliest.

It’s on the WAY !!!!

Hello Dear iOS Beta Testers,

This is a heads-up to let you know that iOS Waze RC v.4.43.4.0 will be available in TestFlight very soon! Please make sure your notifications for TestFlight are ON.

Note: Remember to set your Waze Client to DEBUG mode after upgrading (type 2##2 in Search).

What’s New:

  • Waze on Apple CarPlay is available for beta testers ONLY and your feedback is needed more than ever!

Awesome news Waze, if this was a month ago.
Are they really not allowed to beta test with TestFlight until the GM is released?
I didn't expect to see it during the Public Beta but I also didn't think Waze to be caught off guard by the news during the second week in September.

It has been mentioned many times here...they could not release THEIR beta to work with Apple's beta...that's not the way it works.

While they may have had access to the coding required to develop their integration, allowing their app (beta or otherwise) to work on CarPlay requires them to wait until the public release of Apple's software.

I'm picking up a new car saturday and for the first time I will be having a vehicle with carplay included.. I am super excited... My experience with Waze in the past has been horrible.... They always re-route me for every little thing and usually send me a longer more local way... Anyway I dont mind apple maps like many people do, but would also like to give google maps a shot..... Will probably try Waze again as well and see if I have a different experience.... Or perhaps I dont know how to use it well, will do a little reading up on it.

Waze actually got worse for me over the first 6 months of this year...super weird routing that never matched what locals told me to do.

As I do every year when the beta is released, flipped over to Apple Maps to try new features. It’s been awesome.

I’ve always hated the Google Maps UI...

After experiencing the new updates in the Bay Area a couple of times over the past month, I’m sticking with Apple Maps.

I have also noticed that Waze has deteriorated. Sometimes, it takes forever to find its route, and sometimes will fail completely at pulling up simple routes. The app has become a mess.

I used Apple Maps once a month ago to try to find a restaurant that has been open for a few years. It told me I was "at my location" when I was in the middle of the highway. I've never had this issue with Google Maps.

If Apple Maps can get POIs placed the right location on the map, I'd switch. It makes sense to switch w/ Siri. I can't, however, live with its bottom of the barrel POI location accuracy.

Google Maps, old reliable, has won me over for the next few years.

What I have heard mentioned was that they were not allowed to release the app with ios12 APIs until the GM. That I completely understand.
I have a real hard time believing they couldn't touch anything until yesterday. How can Apple dictate how they beta test their software? This isn't released via the App Store.
I expected the app to be in for review already.
But what do I know? Waze probably does not really care as much as we think.
