so, i used appzapper to uninstall the wd anywhere app that came with my mybook. everything seems fine(doesn't try to back up or anything), however the icon is still in the menu bar next to time machine. any help would be appreciated.

There should be a uninstaller somewhere ( oops sorry just read above link ) or you could just try holding down the command key & dragging the icon of the menu bar

i'm guessing appzapper got rid of the uninstaller. i'll try to reinstall then uninstall.

You must be doing it wrong to bring down the drop down, try holding down the command key place the pointer over the icon then click & drag ( still holding down the command key )

WD Anywhere has it's own uninstall feature which I have recently used successfully. Just go to the WD Anywhere folder in your Applications, open it and double click on "Uninstall". Worked fine for me.

A quick tip that was the first thing I learned on this forum a few months ago:

hold cmd and drag the icon out of the menu bar. it will disappear in a puff of smoke.
