I was stuck on the decision of getting time capsule or wd external hard drive, well ive just picked up a 1tb wd elements external hard drive from tesco for £64, connected it to my mbp to back up for the first to time machine (never used before) And seems to be working perfectly! It's backing up all my data for the first time.

Does Time Machine backup everything on your macbook? As I plan on restoring the macbook to factory settings as its selling on ebay.

    Thanks

Yes.. When you get a new mac assuming thats what your doing, choose to recover info from another time machine volume in migration assistant, and your all set :)
