WD My Passport Essential SE 1tb - 12.5mm?

All my WD Studio drives stop working after a few months. I don't think the drives in them die, just the enclosures. As with the Passports, they are working fine and so are the internal drives. *knock on wood*
 
Hi, can someone tell me if the new WD My Passport Essential SE 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 is ok for the my old macbook unibody (aluminium, but not PRO) late 2008?

I bought a Verbatim store'n'go 2.5" 1TB USB 3.0 but it has the problem that if plugged in before macbook power on it block the entire system between the classic "DONG" and the apple logo.. I've tried with a macbook pro late 2009 with the same result.. So before buying this new drive i would be sure that everything would be ok

The alternative is to buy an USB 2.0 1TB drive :mad:
